About the Team:

Research is a key driver of our Global Equity platform at Scotiabank. We focus on the Canadian market, with targeted international research covering the US and Latin America. Our top-ranked teams generate value-added equity ideas and publications, continuously innovating to bring new products and insights to clients. Our offerings include daily company-specific investment views, sector updates, in-depth reports, portfolio analysis, and equity strategy commentary.

Purpose:

Equity Research Associates work in a stimulating and demanding environment, contributing to Canada’s most international bank’s top-ranked Equity Research franchise. They collaborate closely with seasoned analysts to develop financial forecasts and publish research that helps clients make informed investment decisions. With limited hierarchy and a team approach, Associates develop client relationships, sector expertise, financial modeling, valuation skills, and an understanding of capital markets.

What You'll Do:

  • Perform comprehensive financial statement analysis and build financial models.
  • Conduct industry research using various sources.
  • Collect, consolidate, and interpret company and industry data.
  • Assist in writing research publications, including market commentary, reports, and thematic research.
  • Monitor market news and data to assess trends.
  • Prepare PowerPoint presentations for meetings with clients.
  • Handle inquiries from institutional investors.
  • Develop relationships with investor relations and company management.
  • Liaise with sales, trading, and other teams within regulatory guidelines.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • University degree in business, specializing in accounting or finance.
  • Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation preferred.
  • Completion of CFA program is an asset.
  • Experience in accounting, finance, equity research, or M&A preferred.
  • Knowledge of the mining sector is an asset.
  • Strong financial modeling, analysis, and accounting skills.
  • Experience analyzing financial statements and company valuation.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Good judgment and decision-making abilities.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Capacity to manage multiple projects while maintaining quality.
  • High energy and eagerness to learn.

Work Arrangement:

This role is currently on-site, requiring at least 4 days per week in the office, subject to change based on business needs.
