What You'll Be Doing
The Global Mining team is a leading provider of investment banking services to existing and prospective metals & mining companies globally. The team’s coverage strategy spans North America, Europe, South America, Asia, and Australia. Our client-centric approach incorporates M&A and other financial advisory services with access to the debt, equity and loan capital markets, as well as complex risk and hedging solutions. The Global Mining team manages a market leading platform from our offices in Toronto, Vancouver, London, Sydney, Hong Kong, Tokyo, and Bogota.
Clients across the world turn to CIBC’s Global Mining team for M&A advisory, debt and equity financing and lending products. We have led many of the industry’s largest gold and base metals equity transactions and have played integral lead strategic advisory roles to global mining companies in some of the largest industry defining merger and acquisition transactions. Our specialized global platform and subject matter expertise enables us to help our clients meet their goals, including those related to the global energy transition.
Directors work on assignments that impact the firm's bottom line through transaction execution, deal identification, building of client relationships, and contributing to the overall communication flow across our global offices. The role provides you with steep learning and an ability to observe and influence the strategic direction of our clients’ businesses with exposure to company executives and board of directors.
Directors play a key role in originating and managing a variety of transactions and advisory projects, such as mergers & acquisitions, divestitures, equity and debt financings, and capital structure and strategic advisory projects, and must have strong prioritization and multi-tasking capabilities. You will be expected to maintain awareness of the strategic priorities of our clients and key developments and trends in the industry. Directors also play a critical role in mentoring and training Analysts and Associates on the team.
The role of a Director is challenging and fast-paced. It requires dedication, passion for the industry and a very solid work ethic. You must be able to accept flexibility in required personal time commitments to complete work assignments.

How You'll Succeed
Proposals - Play a key role in the preparation and presentation of client proposals, “pitchbooks” , including managing work from Analysts and Associates. Prepare industry and financial analysis to assist with the development of client recommendations
Transaction Execution – Play a lead role in the execution of client mandates and transactions including acting as the central point of contact for the deal team and client team members as appropriate throughout a transaction
Research - Conduct industry research and analysis to assist in the identification and/or analysis of investment banking business opportunities.
Financial Analysis - Lead and oversee complex financial modeling, valuation and other analyses and provide corresponding recommendations to internal and client stakeholders
Due Diligence - Assist in company due diligence investigations
Relationship Building – Grow your internal and external networks coordinating client-focused and/or deal-focused “brainstorming” sessions with relevant team members and product specialists. Developing relationships and actively communicating with various appropriate contacts at our clients. Developing and maintaining an internal network with product groups and other business groups. Developing and maintaining an external network with the market (i.e. key stakeholders, clients, prospects, etc.). Liaising with other units of CIBC Capital Markets in preparing proposals for clients
Culture – Support CIBC’s “Culture of Care” through involvement in community activities
Mentoring - Actively manage and mentor Analysts and Associate that work with you and providing regular feedback to them
Who You Are
You can demonstrate relevant industry experience. A minimum of 5 years of previous experience in one or more of investment banking, corporate finance, private equity, project financing, tax equity, or investment review. Experience must have included meaningful financial modeling and analysis. Direct work experience in the mining industry is an asset
You possess strong communication skills. Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to effectively distill and succinctly communicate the results and implications of complex analyses to internal and client representatives.
You are success-oriented. Extremely dedicated and motivated individual with high career aspirations. Must be capable of assuming high levels of responsibility within short time frames. Success to you is helping solve and execute on the complex financial and strategic needs of our clients
You have an undergraduate degree in finance, accounting, mathematics, engineering, computer science or economics. Completion of a CA, CFA, MBA or Masters in Finance is an asset
You have relevant financial skills. Excellent analytical ability including demonstrated knowledge of valuation techniques and practices, including cash flow and returns analyses. Knowledge of accounting principles relating to financial statement preparation and business combinations
You possess strong technical skills. Strong technical skills as it relates to Excel, Word, and PowerPoint and industry applications including FactSet and Bloomberg
You are motivated by collective success Well-developed interpersonal and relationship building skills in order to develop, manage and leverage relationships with clients, and internal and/or external business partners. Well-developed written and verbal communication skills sufficient to provide detailed explanation and interpretation of factual and conceptual information and ideas related to complex technical and conceptual issues. Unquestioned professionalism, ethics and reputation and proven ability to exercise strong independent judgment when making business decisions and/or representing CIBC Capital Markets
