Job description

A well-established and reputable mid-sized law firm in the GTA, recognized for delivering tailored legal services across a wide client base, from fast-growing startups to multinational corporations. The Role:

The Financial Analyst play a key role within the firm’s Finance team, supporting core financial operations while working alongside senior leadership to ensure precision in reporting, compliance with regulations, and actionable insights to support strategic goals. The role spans day-to-day financial activities, month-end procedures, and forward-looking analysis, with the opportunity to engage in both routine reporting and ongoing process enhancements. This role requires working fully onsite.

Responsibilities include:

• Preparing reconciliations across various firm accounts, including trust and general banking, as part of the month-end close.
• Managing intercompany, asset, and prepayment entries and ensuring alignment with financial records.
• Administering billing-related data such as timekeeper rates and e-billing configurations, ensuring systems are updated accurately.
• Supporting regulatory compliance and financial reporting requirements, including audit schedules and trust account governance.
• Assisting in the creation of the annual budget and performing ongoing financial analysis, including variance tracking and trend reporting.
• Maintaining and refining management reports related to cash flow, collections, partner contributions, and overhead allocation.
• Providing insights into department-level profitability and contributing to the refinement of cost-efficiency strategies.
• Collaborating with HR and other departments on cross-functional financial processes such as benefits administration and data uploads.
• Taking ownership of ad hoc projects and finance-related tasks as directed by senior finance leaders.

The Ideal Candidate will have:

• A post-secondary degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related discipline. A professional accounting designation (CPA, CFA) is preferred but not mandatory.
• Between 3 to 5 years of relevant finance experience, ideally gained in a legal, consulting, or other professional services setting.
• Strong Microsoft Excel capabilities, including data formulas and lookups; experience with practice management systems such as Elite or Aderant is highly valued.
• Familiarity with legal financial operations, including trust compliance and billing cycles, would be an asset.
