Job summary

College of the North Atlantic in Gander invites applications for a full-time instructor in the Aircraft Structural Repair Technician program. The incumbent will teach in both classroom and shop environments, assess student progress and provide academic advising to help learners succeed in aircraft structures, corrosion assessment and repair of structural components.

The role requires relevant certificates/licenses, five years of industry experience, and appropriate educator qualifications;

Qualifications

  • Certificate in Aircraft Structural Repair Technician and valid Canadian AME license (S).
  • Diploma in Aircraft Maintenance Engineering with valid AME license (M1/M2) and prior certification privileges for Aircraft Structural Repair.
  • Five years of recent, relevant industry experience.

Responsibilities

  • Instruct students, facilitate learning and evaluate progress in the Aircraft Structural Repair Technician Program.
  • Plan, organize and manage learning activities and resources in classroom and shop; provide academic advising and support to students.
  • Perform other duties to maintain quality learner-centered instruction.

Duties And Responsibilities
  • The primary assignment of the incumbent will be to instruct students, facilitate learning and evaluate student progress in the Aircraft Structural Repair Technician Program.
  • The incumbent will plan, organize and manage learning activities and resources in both the classroom and shop environments and provide academic advising and support to students. The primary focus of instruction will be on aircraft structures, including the assessment of corrosion and the repair or replacement of structural components. This includes the use of specialized tools, equipment, and repair techniques, as well as developing student proficiency in working with a variety of materials used in aircraft construction of aircraft wood, fabric, sheet metal and composite materials.
  • The incumbent will also perform other related duties consistent with maintaining quality learner-centered instruction.
Screening Criteria
  • Certificate in Aircraft Structural Repair Technician with a valid Canadian Aircraft Maintenance Engineer's license, category "S".
  • A Diploma in Aircraft Maintenance Engineering with a valid Canadian Aircraft Maintenance Engineer's license, category "M1/M2" and evidence of prior certification privileges for Aircraft Structural Repair.
  • Five years recent, relevant industry experience.
  • B.Ed. (Secondary/Post-Secondary). Eligibility for membership in an appropriate professional association. Instructor training and experience teaching at a post-secondary level. Operations/managerial experience in the occupation (assets).
Assessment Criteria
  • Knowledge of aircraft structural repair applicable to variety of aircraft sizes and types.
  • Understanding of classroom management practices and instructional techniques currently being used in a teaching and learning environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written).
  • Organizational and time management skills with the ability to plan, prioritize, and meet deadlines.
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills with an ability to assess situations and respond appropriately to the needs of students.
  • Proficiency with, and/or a willingness to embrace, teaching and learning technologies that support and enhance the student learning experience.
  • Ability to build and maintain productive working relationships.Li>
  • Demonstrated commitment to teaching excellence and to supporting and delivering a positive student learning experience.Li>

  • Verification of credentials and applicable licenses, certifications, and/or professional memberships as required for the position.
  • Credentials obtained outside of Canada will require an evaluation to determine their Canadian educational equivalency. This evaluation must support the educational requirements for the position.
