Job summary

Hall Shoring & Foundations are seeking an Equipment Maintenance Superintendent to lead maintenance, field service and equipment logistics across Western Canada. You will act as the liaison between Operations and the Equipment Division to maximize uptime, safety, reliability and cost control, with weekly planning meetings.

You will develop preventative maintenance schedules, review histories, coordinate repairs and manage inventory and budget while promoting safe practices across the team.

Qualifications

  • Journeyman Heavy Equipment Technician or equivalent experience.
  • 10+ years of heavy equipment maintenance experience.
  • 5+ years in a leadership role.
  • Valid driver's license.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the Western Canada HSF maintenance program and supervise technicians.

The HSF Equipment Maintenance Superintendent is responsible for leading all maintenance, field service, planning and equipment logistics activities supporting Hall Shoring & Foundations throughout Western Canada. The position acts as the primary liaison between Operations and the Equipment Division to maximize equipment uptime, reliability, safety, compliance and cost control. This position works Monday to Friday.

Your day-to-day will look like:
  • Lead the Western Canada HSF maintenance program, supervise technicians and lead weekly HSF maintenance planning meetings.
  • Build alignment between Operations and the Equipment Division, establish maintenance priorities and support field operations.
  • Develop preventative maintenance schedules, coordinate breakdown repairs and planned maintenance, and monitor preventative maintenance compliance and repair turnaround times.
  • Review oil sample results and equipment history, perform root cause analysis on repeat failures, and identify opportunities to improve fleet availability and uptime.
  • Coordinate winter overhaul programs.
  • Schedule monthly rig inspections, coordinate NDT inspections and certification, and monitor inspection compliance.
  • Ensure compliance with the HSF Equipment Maintenance, Inspection & Management Standard.
  • Review and action pre-trip inspection deficiencies.
  • Coordinate all drill rig mobilizations and demobilizations, including trucking and specialized transportation.
  • Arrange third-party machine shops, hydraulic cylinder shops and specialty repair vendors.
  • Coordinate emergency after-hours contractor support.
  • Organize flights, hotels, ferries and work visas for out-of-town technicians and contractors.
  • Coordinate parts ordering, expediting and parts pickups.
  • Manage the HSF equipment yard, maintain the light vehicle fleet, and manage parts and lubricant inventory.
  • Support capital planning and lifecycle replacement.
  • Manage OEM and warranty relationships and monitor warranty recovery.
  • Review repair quotations and invoices and monitor maintenance costs, including maintenance cost per operating hour and overall budget performance.
  • Coordinate apprentice development and technician training.
  • Coordinate site orientations.
  • Promote safe maintenance practices and OEM procedures and support strong safety performance across maintenance activities.
  • Maintain a strong working relationship with Operations and provide responsive equipment and maintenance support to field teams.

You have the following qualifications, technical and interpersonal skills:

Qualifications:
  • Must be eligible to work in Canada.
  • Journeyman Heavy Equipment Technician or equivalent experience.
  • 10+ years of heavy equipment maintenance experience.
  • 5+ years in a leadership role.
  • Experience with foundation drilling equipment preferred.
  • Valid driver's licence.
Technical Skills:
  • Strong knowledge of preventative maintenance planning, inspections and equipment maintenance practices.
  • Strong understanding of heavy equipment diagnostics, troubleshooting and root cause analysis.
  • Experience reviewing equipment history, inspection results and maintenance information to identify reliability issues and maintenance priorities.
  • Experience coordinating repairs, planned maintenance and equipment overhaul programs.
  • Knowledge of maintenance management systems, work orders, service records and equipment history tracking.
  • Experience working with OEMs, warranty programs and third-party repair vendors.
  • Strong understanding of equipment inspection, certification and compliance requirements.
  • Experience with maintenance budgeting, repair cost control and invoice review.
  • Experience with parts and inventory management.
  • Strong computer skills and ability to work with maintenance data, reports and standard Microsoft Office applications.
Interpersonal Skills:
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to supervise, coach and develop technicians and apprentices.
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple maintenance priorities across projects and locations.
  • Strong communicator who can work effectively with Operations, the Equipment Division, technicians, vendors and contractors.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills, particularly when responding to breakdowns and operational priorities.
  • Able to balance equipment availability, safety, compliance and cost when establishing maintenance priorities.
  • Comfortable coordinating work across internal teams and third-party service providers.
  • Strong attention to detail and follow-through.
