The Heavy Equipment Operator is crucial in the construction and maintenance of infrastructure, responsible for operating various types of heavy machinery safely and efficiently. They must ensure that all operations are in compliance with safety regulations and project specifications. The role demands precision, attention to detail, and adherence to safety protocols to effectively contribute to the project's success.

Day‑to‑Day Responsibilities
  • Operate heavy equipment such as excavators, dozers, rollers, loaders, skidsteers, and rock trucks in accordance with safety practices and procedures.
  • Perform daily pretrip inspections and maintenance checks on equipment and report any defects or needed repairs to the supervisor.
  • Complete daily hazard assessments and identify controls.
  • Follow proper start‑up and shutdown procedures.
  • Collaborate with ground personnel and other operators to ensure safe and efficient task completion.
  • Participate in daily toolbox meetings and complete role specific training.
  • Assist in site preparation, including clearing, excavation, grading, and backfilling as per project needs.
  • Communicate effectively with the team to coordinate operations and minimize disruptions.
Qualifications
  • Years of experience: Minimum 2 years
  • Education: High School or Equivalent
  • Considered an asset:
    • GPS & Grade Control experience
    • Ground Disturbance Lv. 2
    • Rigging
    • First Aid
Technical Skills
  • Operate with precision, efficiency, and safety.
  • Ability to perform routine maintenance and simple repairs on equipment.
  • Blind spot and spatial awareness.
  • Understand load stability and limitations of machine.
  • Understand site layout, grading plans, and excavation requirements.
  • Capable of reading and understanding project drawings and specifications.
  • Work around utilities (buried & overhead).

  • Strong communication skills to effectively work with team members and supervisors.
