Shannex Incorporated is seeking an Environmental Services Attendant for the Cedarstone Enhanced Care team in Truro, NS. The role focuses on cleaning, laundry, and supply replenishment to maintain a safe and welcoming environment for residents.

The perfect candidate will have a high school diploma, 1 year of housekeeping or laundry experience, and the ability to adapt to a fast-paced setting while complying with safety standards and resident care protocols.

Responsibilities

• Dusts, cleans and polishes furniture, counters, shelving, walls, and windows/doors.

• Replenishes supplies in resident rooms, nursing units, and restrooms.
• Sorts laundry and operates washing/drying equipment.
• Ensures food is received, stored properly, and served at correct temperatures.

About The Opportunity

• Dusts, cleans and polishes furniture, counters, shelving, walls, and window/door ledges.
• Cleans sinks, toilets and bath facilities
• Fills and replenishes supplies in resident rooms, nursing units, and rest rooms
• Empties and cleans trash receptacles and places trash in compactor and/or trash pickup area
• Ensures that food quality, presentation, dining room appearance and service delivery meet established department standards
• Ensures meals are attractive, the correct temperature and portion size, and that service is on time
• Immediately reports any equipment/temperature issues to supervisor and takes corrective actions as necessary
• Stays up to date with daily changes related to menus and/or residents.
• Ensure food is received and stored properly
• Prepares cart for fluid passes, snacks and night lunch for residents. Assists with distribution when needed
• Provides resident menu feedback to manager via temperature audit sheet, feedback form or verbally
• Sorts laundry into appropriate piles based on the type of laundry (linens, mops, personal clothing)
• Operates washing machine using proper washing formulas
• Operates dryer and extractor; loads clean, wet laundry into the machine, sets dials so the laundry is dried or damp-dried appropriately and unloads the machine
• Sorts clean laundry into appropriate baskets or racks; counts linen needed for each area as per linen quota and puts on cart; notes name tags on resident clothing and puts on correct rack
• Picks up soiled laundry and delivers clean laundry to resident areas within the facility using laundry carts
• Checks laundry for tears, holes, missing buttons, etc. and forwards clothing needing repair to the seamstress

About You

In addition to placing high value on continuous improvement, collaboration and accountability, you bring:

• High School/ GED completion
• Minimum of one (1) year experience in commercial housekeeping and/or laundry preferred
• Proof of valid CPR/First Aid Certification considered an asset
• Successful candidates will be required to obtain a clear Criminal Record Check, and where applicable, a Vulnerable Sector Check, prior to appointment
• Previous experience working in housekeeping and/or laundry considered an asset
• Previous experience working in food services considered an asset
• Previous experience in working in a long-term care an asset
• Ability to learn and work in fast paced environment
• Ability to work a schedule of flexible hours/ shifts inclusive of days, weekends and holidays
