Job Summary
The successful candidate will bring a proactive and collaborative approach, supporting all departments in fostering a safe, healthy, and environmentally responsible workplace and provide advice to management and employees along with establishing the improvements needed to ensure environmental and health and safety legislated compliance.

Duties & Responsibilities
• Lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of environmental and health and safety programs, policies, and procedures.
• Monitor and ensure compliance with applicable federal, provincial, and local environmental and OHS regulations.
• Oversee the OHS department and act as the primary advisor to management and staff on all related matters.
• Plan and conduct environmental audits and inspections to evaluate the effectiveness of existing programs.
• Lead investigations of environmental and workplace incidents; prepare reports and ensure timely follow-up on corrective actions.
• Collaborate with operational leaders to conduct risk assessments, job hazard analyses, and site inspections.
• Provide training and coaching to employees and leaders on safety standards, environmental procedures, and regulatory requirements.
• Manage workplace injury and illness claims (WCB/WSIB/STD/LTD) and support return-to-work and disability management processes.
• Prepare and submit regulatory reports as required by government agencies.
• Act as a key point of contact for environmental consultants, government inspectors, and other stakeholders.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• Post-secondary degree in Environmental Sciences or a related discipline and a diploma or degree in Occupational Health and Safety or a related field.
• Certified in Occupational Health and Safety (as per the Occupational Health and Safety Act/Regulations).
• Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in environmental and health & safety roles, preferably in an industrial or mining environment.
• Strong working knowledge of environmental regulations and OHS legislation, including OHSA, WSIB/WCB, and the Human Rights Code.
• Demonstrated experience developing and implementing environmental strategies and monitoring environmental performance.
• Proven ability to lead incident investigations and environmental audits.
• Experience managing workers’ compensation claims and related procedures.
• Strong communication, facilitation, and problem-solving skills.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office and safety/environmental management systems.

Physical Requirements / Work Environment
• This role requires both office-based and field work in an industrial mining environment.
• Fieldwork may involve exposure to noise, dust, and varying weather conditions.
• Required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) including steel-toe boots, hard hat, and safety glasses when on-site.
• Must be capable of walking, climbing, and working at heights or in confined spaces as needed.
