The role: Your experience as a Qualified Person in soil / groundwater contamination, excess soil management, and waste management is critical for successful project delivery. In a practice that is growing, you will be part of Hatch’s global Environment and Sustainability team, working with our existing and emerging clients. We collaborate and partner with clients, communities, stakeholders, regulatory agencies, and Hatch’s engineering teams to solve our client’s most challenging problems.

Your challenges with us!
Act as the environment lead for multidisciplinary projects with responsibilities that include reviewing contract documents for deliverables; reviewing specifications and submittals; preparing environmental permit and approval applications; reviewing contractor submissions for completion; developing environmental management plans; conducting technical reviews and coordinating with other technical support staff as needed.
Identify and develop environment and sustainability-related business opportunities with clients and companies working in the metals, energy, and infrastructure sectors.
Lead the preparation of technical reports, including tender packages, technical specifications, and contract drawings and cost estimates.
Lead or provide input to obtaining approvals such as Environmental Compliance Approvals (air and noise, water and waste management) and approvals related to natural environment (e.g., Environmental Protection Act, Fisheries Act, Impact Assessment Act).
Provide leadership, technical direction, peer review and advice within our existing environmental consulting practice.
Support resource planning and collaborative leadership on project teams.
Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of existing and emerging regulatory requirements and best practices.
Be relied upon as a technical expert in any combination of soil / groundwater contamination, excess soil management and waste management.
Work collaboratively with integrated, multidisciplinary teams, liaising with and supporting global peers.
Recruit and develop Hatch’s next generation of environmental leaders.
Your profile:
A bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Geology / Geoscience , or equivalent related discipline.
Current Professional Engineer or Professional Geoscientist designation.
Strong working knowledge of O.Reg. 153/04: Record of Site Condition, O.Reg. 406/19: On-site and Excess Soil Management and O.Reg. 347: General – Waste Management.
Qualified Person as defined in O.Reg. 153/04.
2+ years of relevant experience acting as a Qualified Person in the preparation / review of Phase One / I Environmental Site Assessments, Phase Two / II Environmental Site Assessments, Soil Management Plans, Groundwater Management Plans, Geotechnical Baseline Reports and/or Geotechnical Data Reports.
Willingness to leverage existing technical expertise and expand skills / knowledge of other areas of the environmental industry.
Demonstrated business development and client engagement experience.
Ability to lead, mentor, and inspire environmental teams, collaborate with peers and integrate with engineering teams.
Willingness to travel both domestically and internationally as work requires.
Entrepreneurial with a strong quality focus.
Effective at managing internal and external stakeholders.
Clear communication style with the ability to plan, lead, and deliver best in class, high quality deliverables.
Knowledge of or experience with environmental assessment or permitting, environmental due diligence, and technical modelling an asset.
