KGS Group in Vancouver is seeking an Environmental Department Head to lead and grow an emerging team of engineers, technicians and scientists focused on site assessment, remediation and related environmental scopes across Canada and beyond.

You will mentor staff, manage projects, drive business development, coordinate with other disciplines, maintain client relationships, and deliver quality engineering deliverables while expanding the practice.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or equivalent in civil/environmental/geological engineering.
  • PE license/EGBC registration required.
  • 15+ years environmental engineering experience and 5+ years of people management.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, develop, manage, and motivate an emerging team of engineers, technicians and scientists.
  • Produce, supervise, and manage engineering deliverables on a variety of projects.
  • Track and manage KPIs: win ratio, revenue, chargeability and client satisfaction.
  • Evaluate department needs and participate in recruitment opportunities.
  • Participate in business development, assess Go/No-Go opportunities, write proposals.
  • Coordinate with other disciplines to execute projects.
  • Maintain strong client relationships.
  • Coach, supervise, and mentor staff for career growth.
  • Coordinate with external consultants and vendors as required.

The Role

We are looking for an Environmental Department Head to join our Environmental team in our Vancouver office. In this role you will lead, develop, manage and motivate an emerging team of engineers, technicians and scientists with a focus on all aspects of environmental scopes of work for clients in various industries and markets. The successful candidate will have the freedom and flexibility to continue to grow the team based in Vancouver. Successful candidate experience should include environmental engineering services involving, but not necessarily limited to site assessment, remediation and risk management; hydrogeology and hydrogeological engineering; emergency response; demolition and hazardous building materials assessment; solid waste management; and/or geothermal applications.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead, develop, manage, and motivate an emerging team of engineers, technicians and scientists with a focus on environmental work
  • Produce, supervise, and manage engineering deliverables on a variety of projects
  • Track and manage key performance metrics for the department including, but not limited to, win ratio on proposals, revenue, chargeability and client satisfaction
  • Evaluate the department needs on an ongoing basis and make recommendations for recruitment and retention and participate in recruitment opportunities as they arise
  • Participate in business development activities, including assessing Go/No-Go opportunities with the Market Lead and Regional Manager, while leading and writing proposals
  • Liaise and coordinate with other disciplines within the company to execute projects
  • Help to maintain strong relationships with clients
  • Train, coach, supervise, and mentor staff with their career growth and professional development
  • Coordinate with external consultants and vendors as required to ensure smooth project delivery
About You
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil/Environmental/Geological Engineering, or equivalent
  • Registration as a Professional Engineer with EGBC, or equivalent
  • A minimum of 15 years or more of environmental engineering experience
  • A minimum of 5 years experience in managing personnel teams
  • Strong project management, leadership, communication, interpersonal, problem-solving, and collaborative skills, and ability to provide effective technical mentoring to less experienced engineers
  • Experience working directly with clients and managing/fostering existing relationships in addition to forming new ones
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with ability to manage diverse workloads, potentially with conflicting deadlines or priorities
  • Strong written communication skills and the ability to produce, review, and delegate technical reports, proposals and other forms of non-formal written communication
  • Entrepreneurial mindset and propensity for business development will be considered a strong asset for this role
  • Highly proactive with exceptional problem solving/analytical skills
  • Strong proficiency in Windows and Microsoft Office (excel, word, PowerPoint)
  • Society of Contaminated Sites Approved Professional is considered an asset but not a requirement

The salary for this role is between $160,000.00 to $180,000.00a nnually.
