Job description

We are an employee-owned, multidisciplinary engineering consulting firm serving clients across North America and beyond. Our team of engineers, scientists, technologists and support staff is dedicated to excellence in engineering and project management.

We believe a commitment to lasting relationships is just as critical as the expertise applied in our work. To us that means we put our people first. From professional development opportunities to an open, flexible and collaborative work environment, a career at KGS is like no other.

Working with us means you’ll be part of some of the most interesting projects across Canada, the U.S. and beyond. We believe we set our own boundaries by what we’re willing to attempt and strive to push the limit on what’s possible. That’s the KGS way.

The Role

We are looking for a Project Manager to join our Environmental Department with a focus on the Environmental Market in our Winnipeg office. As KGS Group continues to develop strong technical delivery teams, we are looking to support our teams with focused project management support. This role would include day-to-day project management tasks, scheduling and contract administration, management of priorities, and deliverable tracking. You will be working in a friendly and collaborative environment with the opportunity to interface directly with clients and contractors.

Key Responsibilities

You will manage environmental projects of varying complexity and working directly with all levels of environmental staff, from field teams to other Project Managers, Senior Staff, and Department Management as required. Key responsibilities include the following, and where the Department Head may assign tasks as follows:

  • Provide project services support – proposal preparation, scheduling, estimating, procurement support, technical administration
  • Write and issue project communications: emails, memos, reports, etc
  • Coordinate project work for environmental or multidiscipline teams throughout the project’s lifecycle (from development and initiation to close-out)
  • Develop or modify project commercial documents and participate in procurement processes
  • Project-related field services such as inspection, auditing, supervision, quality assurance, safety, and contractor management
  • Tracking project financials, work effort, schedule and budget items for small, medium and large projects
  • Office-related construction services such as invoice review and payment certification, schedule updates, permitting submissions, etc
  • Leveraging both training and experience, provide or coordinate multi-disciplinary technical and constructability review of drawings, specifications, work plans, etc
    • It is not anticipated that the Project Manager will be asked to conduct engineering design and seal deliverables such as drawings, etc. That said, the project manager should have a very strong technical background in environmental engineering and construction so that they can provide value to both internal and external clients in terms of non-design technical advice, drawing review, project scoping, and project execution
  • Provide mentorship to junior project managers, project engineers, project coordinators, and administrative staff
  • Champion and lead project management-related and/or multidiscipline engineering pursuits
  • Support business development/marketing and proposal writing efforts
  • Travel to work sites may be required periodically as needed
  • Working with the Quality Management team to uphold quality standards and procedures
  • Working with the Health and Safety Management team to reinforce safety as a top priority, compliance with local legislated and best practice safety needs and ensure required safety training and equipment is available to all staff
About You
  • Minimum 8+ years of experience in project management, project engineering or construction management
  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Environmental Sciences or Geology from a recognized University, or technical diploma with suitable experience
  • Possesses Professional Engineering or Geoscience designation (P.Eng., L.Eng. or P.Geo.) in Manitoba or carry designations such as E.P., ASctT, C.E.T. or equivalent and eligible to obtain PMP
  • Ability to travel and service multiple concurrent project sites within Manitoba, and on occasion Saskatchewan or Ontario
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • A task-oriented, organized, and self-motivated personality with a demonstrated ability to take ownership of their work, maintain project momentum, and drive projects to completion
