Job summary

KGS Group is seeking a Civil/Environmental Engineer to develop and deliver site remediation, mine waste, civil grading, and solid waste designs across Canada and the U.S. You will work on projects from proposal through construction, with mentorship from senior staff and collaboration with environmental teams.

You will participate in design development, field investigations, and contract administration while ensuring quality planning and documentation.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of technical experience in environmental/ civil/ geotechnical fields.
• Bachelor of Science in Engineering (Environmental, Civil, Geotechnical) preferred; other relevant backgrounds considered.
• PE designation (P.Eng./L.Eng./P.Geo) in relevant jurisdictions desired or eligible.
• Solid waste management and remediation knowledge required.
• Strong writing, research and presentation skills.

The Role

The Civil/Environmental Engineer will have a key role in developing and delivering site remediation, mine waste, civil grading, and solid waste management designs. Working in a team from the proposal stage through design, construction and final delivery. You will work on design projects that both build on your existing knowledge and expand your engineering experience through mentorship from our senior staff. Working directly with all levels of environmental staff, from field teams to other Project Managers, Senior Staff, Market Leads and Department Management as required, you will engage in design development or take on project management responsibilities and provide technical input and guidance on proposals, field investigation plans, system designs, tender document preparation, contract administration, and troubleshooting. You will serve as a technical resource to ensure quality planning, execution, and documentation for solid waste management work, sometimes collaborating with teams from multiple offices.

Key Responsibilities

• Ability to deliver projects of significant complexity, and often with competing priorities
• Coordinating environmental and solid waste projects including site assessment, feasibility study, landfill gas generation modelling, waste balance modeling, and closure and post-closure services
• Execution of environmental and solid waste projects with design and construction components including engineering design, preparation of construction cost estimates and financial assurance documents, preparation of construction specifications, and construction administration services
• Facilitating coordination of multi-disciplinary work and inter-departmental activities
• Working with the Quality Management team to uphold quality standards and procedures
• Working with the Health and Safety Management team to reinforce safety as a top priority, compliance with local legislated and best practice safety needs and ensure required safety training and equipment is available to all staff

About You

• 5+ years, or more, of technical experience
• Bachelor of Science in Engineering (Environmental, Civil, Geotechnical) is preferred, however an Environmental Science, or Geoscience background with relevant experience will be considered. A Post-graduate degree (M.Eng., M.Sc. and/or Ph.D.) is desirable
• Possesses or is eligible to obtain Professional Engineering designation (P.Eng. or L.Eng. or P.Geo) in relevant jurisdictions
• Strong technical knowledge and demonstrated experience in solid waste management and/or contaminated sites assessment and remediation
• Strong organization and planning skills; strong research and technical writing skills. Ability to present information concisely and clearly
• Experience with various types of waste management facilities, including landfill, waste transfer, composting and material and/or energy recovery is considered an asset
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills to effectively lead and motivate employees and help manage project teams
• Strong report writing and data analysis skills and a strong focus on quality and technical excellence
• Demonstrates a commitment to personal and professional career development
• Experience and knowledge of relevant environmental legislation, regulations, codes, standards and best practices
• The ability to make sound, defensible decisions
• Experience working with Indigenous clients is an asset
• Ability to travel to sites as needed
• Must possess a valid driver’s license and the ability/willingness to undergo security clearance checks
