What you will be doing
- Work with the operations team to implement environmental work plans for various scopes of work.
- Implement control measures to mitigate impacts on environmental values resulting from construction activities.
- Track environmental performance, including soil and excavated material quality, water quality, air quality, wildlife observations, fuel use, waste generated, etc.
- Maintain a full understanding of environmental requirements, including permits and authorizations, Best Management Practices, and the requirements of the Environmental Management Plan and Environmental Work Plans. Collaborate with operations management and staff to ensure compliance.
- Coordinate daily monitoring of construction works, including:
- Coordinate external consultants on sampling and reporting of soil and excavated material quality.
- Check functionality of erosion and sediment control measures.
- Monitor water quality.
- Check spill kits and spill trays, providing guidance on spill cleanup activities.
- Ensure the site is organized and clean.
- Inspect waste and vegetation management.
- Prepare daily monitoring reports.
- Provide environmental training as needed, including orientation and toolbox talks.
- Manage data effectively.
- Review or prepare weekly environmental and monthly reports for senior review.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
What we are looking for
- Post-secondary education in environmental engineering or science.
- Qualified Person (QP) as defined by Ontario Regulation 153 or a candidate pursuing QP certification is preferred.
- 2-5 years of experience managing environmental compliance programs.
- Experience in the construction industry is an asset.
- Experience developing, implementing, monitoring, and tracking environmental practices and performance.
- Knowledge of Ontario environmental legislation, especially Ontario Regulation 406/19.
- Knowledge of erosion and sediment controls and Best Management Practices; CAN-CISEC certification is preferred.
- Familiarity with ISO 10041:2015 Environmental Requirements.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong organizational skills.
