What You Will Do

GFT is seeking an experienced Environmental Compliance Specialist to coordinate and conduct environmental site investigations, monitoring programs, due diligence studies, and compliance audits and inspections for transit, transportation, and infrastructure projects. This role is based in Toronto, Ontario and involves working with our growing Environmental Team.

Our team offers diverse technical expertise, providing opportunities for specialization and career advancement. Working on the roadway team at GFT allows engagement in transformative projects that enhance transportation infrastructure and community connectivity, emphasizing resilient, sustainable design and construction for safe and efficient travel.

Responsibilities include:
  • Ensuring construction activities comply with environmental regulations and permits.
  • Conducting inspections and communicating findings and recommendations.
  • Monitoring environmental conditions during construction.
  • Liaising with stakeholders to communicate environmental plans and address concerns.
  • Supporting environmental compliance reporting.
  • Providing guidance on environmental best practices.
  • Coordinating projects with subject matter experts to deliver quality results on time and within budget.
Education & Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree or college diploma in environmental science, engineering, hydrogeology, geology, physical geography, or related field.
  • 3-5 years of experience in environmental compliance or management, preferably in construction.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Canadian Certified Inspector of Sediment and Erosion Control (CAN-CISEC) certification.
  • Familiarity with ISO14001 standards.
  • Knowledge of federal, provincial, and local regulations.
  • Strong project management, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Willingness to travel to project sites.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Valid Ontario driver’s license and access to a vehicle.
