Job summary

Government of Yukon seeks an experienced environmental protection leader to manage a team that verifies compliance with the Environment Act and Waters Act through inspections, spill response, and stakeholder engagement. The role emphasizes cross-branch collaboration and proactive enforcement.

You will lead risk-based enforcement, coordinate with other government branches, and travel across Yukon communities to support field work and regulatory programs for air, land and water protection.

Qualifications

• Post-secondary degree in science, environmental management, or related discipline.
• Considerable experience leading and mentoring a team of professionals, preferably in a compliance and enforcement setting.
• Considerable experience managing financial resources and operations of a program or unit.
• Experience interpreting and applying legislation, preferably the Yukon Environment Act, Waters Act and regulations (or equivalent).
• Considerable experience conducting inspections, developing inspection and compliance plans and strategies in a regulatory environment.
• Experience with sampling techniques and best practices for industrial and commercial waste management would be an asset.

Responsibilities

• Manage a team that verifies compliance with Environment Act and Waters Act through inspections, and respond to environmental spills and public concerns.
• Provide guidance, direction and collaboration across branches within government and external partners.
• Develop and apply risk-based enforcement and compliance strategies to address changing priorities.
