We are currently seeking a talented individual to join our Transportation team. This position coordinates, observes, monitors, records and reports with respect to the environmental aspects of transportation infrastructure planning, contract development, construction and post construction. This position will focus on the requirements of YESAA, Fisheries Act, Yukon Waters Act and Canadian Navigable Waters Act, and assisting with the planning and coordinating of obtaining all necessary regulatory approvals as well as ensuring there is compliance both during and post construction, for transportation related projects.

Essential Qualifications

• Post-secondary education in Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management, Wildlife Biology, Ecology, or a related discipline.
• Experience interpreting and applying environmental legislation, regulations, policies, and guidelines to transportation infrastructure projects or other industrial activities (e.g., mining, forestry, resource development).
• Experience coordinating environmental compliance activities in the field for transportation infrastructure projects or other industrial activities, including environmental inspections, monitoring, documentation, and reporting.
• Experience engaging and consulting with First Nations and Indigenous governments as part of environmental assessment, regulatory approval, or project delivery processes.
• Experience coordinating multiple environmental projects or activities from planning through implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of compliance requirements.

Candidates who have education, training, and/or experience equivalent to the essential qualifications listed above may be equally considered.

• Knowledge and competency in working on operational environmental issues/matters (e.g. spills, best management practices for road maintenance activities) for transportation related activities and taking the necessary steps to ensure compliance and resolve environmental issues.
• Excellent relationship-building skills to work with colleagues, industry, stakeholders, First Nations Governments, other government departments, and the public;
• Ability to problem solve and work collaboratively and effectively with colleagues, regulators and stakeholders to problem solve and provide timely field fit solutions; and
• Ability to make sound decisions and initiate tasks without direction.

Conditions of Employment

This is a designated position within the Yukon public service which requires the following condition(s) of employment:

• Have and maintain a valid Yukon Class 5 driver’s licence or equivalent.
