Job summary

The District of Lake Country is seeking a permanent full-time Engineering Technician I or II in Lake Country, BC. You will support capital projects with design, drafting in AutoCAD, and coordination across staff, consultants, and contractors to deliver sustainable infrastructure.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of an engineering technology diploma or related field and eligible for a certificate of registration as an applied science technologist.
  • Engineering Technician I requires a minimum of 2 years' work experience in engineering planning and design with municipal systems and services.
  • Engineering Technician II requires a minimum of 5 years' related experience.

Responsibilities

  • Assists with the delivery of capital projects, including scope definition, budgeting, procurement, engineering design, AutoCAD drafting, technical reviews, contract administration, construction supervision, risk management, project safety, and project close-out reporting.
  • Assists with the planning, design, and maintenance of municipal infrastructure systems, including roads, water, sanitary sewer, stormwater, and other linear assets.
  • Assists with reviewing and amending engineering standards, policy, process documentation, and technical specifications related to infrastructure design and delivery.
  • Prepares and presents reports, drawings, and technical information to staff or Council related to capital projects, infrastructure planning, and asset management initiatives.
  • Collaborates with District staff, consultants, contractors, external agencies, and the public to support the successful design and delivery of municipal infrastructure projects.

About The OpportunityThe District of Lake Country has an exciting opportunity for a permanent full-time Engineering Technician I or II based in Lake Country, BC. Reporting to the Capital Projects Manager, the Engineering Technician plays a key role in the planning, design, and delivery of municipal infrastructure projects, with a primary focus on the design of linear infrastructure assets. This position is responsible for preparing and maintaining technical drawings, specifications, and design documentation using AutoCAD and other engineering software to support capital projects and infrastructure planning initiatives. The Engineering Technician provides technical expertise in the design, analysis, and coordination of municipal infrastructure systems including roads, water, sanitary sewer, stormwater, and other public works assets. Working closely with District staff, consultants, contractors, and external agencies, the successful candidate will contribute to the development of practical, sustainable, and cost-effective infrastructure solutions. This position requires strong technical design skills, attention to detail, sound engineering judgement, and the ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.

More About You

To qualify for this role, you must have a minimum of an engineering technology diploma or related field and be eligible for a certificate of registration as an applied science technologist. Additionally, an Engineering Technician I is required to have a minimum of 2 years' work experience in engineering planning and design with municipal systems and services; an Engineering Technician II is required to have a minimum of 5 years' related experience. A valid British Columbia driver's license is required. As our ideal candidate, you have an exceptional ability to prioritize and manage timelines in a fast-paced work environment. You have excellent skills in tactfully dealing with public inquiries, with a keen attention to detail and organizational skills.
