Job summary

Vancouver Fraser Port Authority seeks an experienced Manager of Engineering to lead planning, design, construction, and asset management of the port's facilities. This role manages container/cruise terminals, pavements, roads, utilities, and structural issues, and oversees cross-functional teams and consultants.

You will drive budgeting, tendering, and project execution while promoting VFPA's safety culture and stakeholder engagement, with a focus on delivering strategic priority programs on

Qualifications

  • Must have an engineering or applied science degree and 5+ years of related experience at a management level.
  • Strong technical expertise in planning, engineering, and construction for port and infrastructure projects.
  • Ports and marine design, construction and project management experience is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Manage ongoing engineering operational activities including analysis, planning, budgeting, authorization, tendering, implementation and monitoring of construction and asset management works.
  • Participate in port development and facility planning by providing senior engineering expertise, contributing to technical workshops and cross-functional teams, reviewing PER permit applications, supervising multi-discipline consulting teams, preparing reports and recommendations, conducting and reviewing studies and cost estimates, and liaising with other VFPA departments, stakeholders and agencies.
  • Effectively manage consultants and contractors to ensure that corporate and departmental objectives and priorities are met.
  • Prepare and review work scope documents, budgets, schedules, proposal requests, tender documents, plans, specifications and pertinent documents. Review proposals and tenders, negotiate contracts and prepare reports and submissions.
  • Supervise and administer contracts for asset inspections, design and construction of capital and asset management projects and ensure timely, on budget completion of projects.
