Job description

Our client is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead and develop a high-performing, technically diverse engineering team supporting automated test equipment, robotic test systems, and related engineering solutions.

This role will provide technical and people leadership across mechanical, electrical, firmware/software, and manufacturing systems engineering. The Engineering Manager will be responsible for building team capability, managing performance, coaching engineers, and providing direction while remaining closely connected to product development and manufacturing.

The ideal candidate will bring a strong Electrical Engineering background, hands-on experience with automated test equipment, and a proven ability to lead both junior and senior engineers in a manufacturing environment.

The Environment

This is a fully on-site engineering leadership opportunity in Markham, Ontario, Canada. The Engineering Manager will report to the VP/GM and lead a team of 12 direct reports across Mechanical, Electrical, Firmware/Software, and Manufacturing Systems Engineering.

The organization operates within a small-to-mid-sized engineering and manufacturing environment, making this a hands-on leadership role where the ability to work across functions and drive change is important.

The position requires approximately 10-15% travel, with more travel expected initially to customer sites and other company locations. Some international travel to the United States and Europe may also be required.

• Lead, manage, and build a technically diverse, high-performing engineering team.

• Maintain strong engineering execution within a small-to-mid-sized company environment.
• Apply engineering tools and technologies, including Altium and Solid Edge.

Candidate Profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering is required.
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Mechatronics, Electronics, Physics, or a related field may be considered, with a strong preference for Electrical Engineering.
• Minimum of 7 years of experience in an electrical test environment.
• Strong knowledge of automated test equipment.
• 3-5 years of management experience, preferably within a manufacturing environment.
• Strong leadership experience with an emphasis on coaching, mentoring, and performance management.
• Electrical Engineering background.
• Understanding of test and tester instrumentation.
• Strong knowledge of PCBA in-circuit testing.
• Strong knowledge of motion control systems and their component elements, including controls, drivers, and motors.
• Ability to manage and develop both junior and senior engineers.
• Hands-on leadership experience within a manufacturing environment.
• Experience working in a small-to-mid-sized company.
• Experience supporting automated test equipment, robotic test systems, or related engineering environments.
• Experience with Altium and Solid Edge.
• Strong ability to lead teams through change.
• Ability to work effectively across multiple engineering disciplines.
• Strong communication, coaching, mentoring, and performance management skills.
• Ability to work fully on-site in Markham, Ontario.
• Ability to travel approximately 10-15%, with additional travel potentially required during the initial period.
