Lever, Inc. in Canada seeks an Engineering Manager, Applied AI to blend hands-on engineering leadership with people management across complex client engagements. You will lead engineers, influence architecture and prompts, and guide production AI systems while remaining closely involved with customers.

The role offers significant autonomy, exposure to diverse industries, and the chance to shape engineering practices as the AI team grows.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of experience managing software engineers with coaching and development.
• 5+ years of software engineering experience with depth to review designs and guide decisions.
• Strong hands-on Python experience.
• Experience delivering production software in client environments with complex requirements.
• Strong interest in applied AI including agents, evaluations, and multi-agent systems.
• Familiarity with AI coding tools and modern AI-assisted engineering workflows.
• Clear communication with engineers, clients, and stakeholders.
• High-trust, high-agency leadership mindset; proactive problem-solving.

Responsibilities

• Manage engineers through senior level and coach progression toward technical leadership.
• Review architecture, agent designs, prompts, and evaluation approaches across engagements.
• Address production issues and evolving requirements to keep engagements moving.
• Build strong relationships with clients and stakeholders to ensure project delivery.
• Staffing, capacity planning, and handling cross-engagement conflicts.
• Assist in hiring by interviewing and onboarding new team members.
• Contribute to engineering practices by codifying recurring patterns.
