Job summary

Irving Wallboard is seeking an energetic Engineering & Maintenance Manager to lead plant maintenance, reliability, and asset management at their Saint John facility. The role focuses on safety culture, continuous improvement, and aligning engineering efforts with business performance while mentoring engineers and supervisors.

You will report to the General Manager and influence capital projects, operational excellence, and long-term growth within J.D. Irving Limited.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, with relevant industrial experience.
• Strong hands-on experience in industrial maintenance, including a solid mechanical foundation (electrical and controls experience considered an asset)
• Demonstrated ability to lead teams, develop people, and drive performance improvements
• Experience in safety-focused industrial manufacturing environments
• Strong problem-solving skills and a continuous improvement mindset
• Ability to connect technical decisions with operational efficiency and business performance
• Demonstrated leadership potential, ambition, and interest in progressing toward broader operational and business leadership responsibilities

Responsibilities

• Lead plant maintenance, engineering, reliability, and asset management strategies
• Lead by example in creating a strong safety culture
• Set the standard for safety leadership and regulatory compliance
• Coach, develop, and inspire a skilled maintenance and engineering team
• Actively mentor engineers, supervisors, and future leaders
• Drive preventive and predictive maintenance strategies to improve equipment reliability, uptime, and cost performance
• Oversee maintenance planning, scheduling, execution, and contractor performance
• Collaborate with operations, quality, and supply chain to improve overall plant performance
• Balance daily operational priorities with long term reliability and asset management strategies
• Contribute to capital planning, engineering projects, continuous improvement, and broader business objectives
• Partner with the General Manager and leadership team to identify opportunities for operational excellence and sustainable business growth
