Job summary

Newmont's Red Chris Mine in northern British Columbia seeks an Engineer-in-Training (EIT) for Tailings. You will support the tailings management team, assist QA/QC, and coordinate with operations to enhance safety and performance.

The role offers a fly‑in, fly‑out schedule with a camp environment and opportunities for professional growth toward a P.Eng. designation within a world‑class mining operation.

Qualifications

• As Engineer-in-Training (EIT) or pursuing professional designation with relevance to tailings.
• Degree in Geological, Mining, Civil Engineering, or related discipline.
• Knowledge of tailings management and water systems is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Support tailings and water management through inspections, monitoring, data analysis, and reporting.
• Assist QA/QC programs for tailings construction activities.
• Collaborate with operations, environmental, and technical teams to improve facility performance.
• Assess risks, implement mitigation measures, and monitor emerging issues.
• Prepare reports for internal stakeholders, regulators, and senior leadership.

Red Chris is an open-pit copper-gold mine in the famous Golden Triangle of northern British Columbia, situated on the traditional territory of the Tahltan Nation. As a fly-in, fly-out operation, Red Chris is reached via charter flights from multiple locations in BC and Alberta, with teams working on a rotational schedule. Currently an active open-pit producer, Red Chris is poised for an exciting transformation – we are developing a high-value underground block cave that will extend the mine’s life for decades and unlock even more resources. The remote location foster a close-knit “camp” community where safety and teamwork come first. Your Impact

As Engineer-in-Training (EIT), Tailings, you will be an integral member of the tailings management team at Red Chris Mine, providing engineering support to ensure the safe, responsible, and efficient storage of tailings. Working under the supervision of the Superintendent, Tailings (the Responsible Tailings Facility Engineer, or RTFE) you will help co-ordinate the day-to-day management of the Red Chris Tailings Impoundment Area (TIA), supporting inspections, quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC), geotechnical monitoring, water management, and reporting in line with Newmont’s global standards, industry best practices, and the Global Industry Standard on Tailings Management (GISTM).You will assess relevant geotechnical, environmental, and operational risks, help implement mitigation measures, and continuously monitor facility performance, while developing the technical knowledge, judgement, and relationships needed to progress toward your professional engineering designation and long-term growth and opportunities in the Tailings Management field.

As Part of Our Team You Will

Prerequisites for Your Success in This Role

• Degree in Geological, Mining, Civil Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Eligible to register as, or actively working toward, an Engineer-in-Training (EIT) or P.Eng. designation.
• Knowledge of tailings management, risk management, water systems, or construction practices.
• Knowledge of the Global Industry Standard on Tailings Management (GISTM) a benefit.
• Knowledge of water management and pumping systems a benefit.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Demonstrated commitment to safety, teamwork, and continuous learning.

Your Work Environment

• Fly-in, fly-out role based at Red Chris Mine in northern British Columbia.
• Standard 15 days on / 13 days off rotation.
• Combination of office and field-based work.
• Camp accommodation provided, including meals, Wi-Fi, fitness facilities, and recreation amenities.

The expected salary range for this role is CA$85,400 - 113,900 . This range is tied to the British Columbia market for jobs performed in British Columbia. The salary offer to the successful candidate will be based on job-related education, training, and/or experience.
