Job summary

Hudbay Minerals Inc. is seeking an Equipment Operator, Tailings for Copper Mountain Mine in Princeton, BC. This is a temporary 6-month contract on a 7x7, 12-hour day/night shift schedule.

The role supports water system operations and heavy equipment management to maintain pumping and piping assets across the site; the position is not a fly-in-fly-out assignment.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Safe rigging certification or ability to obtain.
  • Minimum 2 years operating Dozer, Excavator, Grader, and Articulating Rock Truck.
  • Pipefitting/fusing or tailings water system experience preferred.
  • Valid BC driver’s license and access to transportation.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure work complies with TMF OMS manuals and water systems OMS.
  • Adhere to mining regulations and Copper Mountain safety/environmental standards.
  • Observe OH&S Act, Mines Act, and Copper Mountain SOPs.
  • Assist in pipefitting and fusing tasks.
  • Provide bolting/unbolting of HDPE pipe.
  • Operate dozer, excavator, grader, and articulating rock trucks.
  • Assist in mine areas during relines or maintenance on mill shutdowns.
  • Perform other duties related to Water Systems Equipment Operator as assigned.

Hudbay Minerals Inc. is seeking for Equipment Operator, Tailings at our Copper Mountain Mine in Princeton, BC. This is a tempoary position with 6 months contract on 7x7, 12-hour, day and night shift schedule.

Location

Copper Mountain Mine, is located near the town of Princeton, British Columbia at the center of the scenic Similkameen Valley. Princeton is a community-oriented town with a diverse offering of activities, especially for those who love the outdoors. Princeton is also in close proximity to both the city of Vancouver and the Okanagan.

Summary

Reporting to Water Systems Shift Supervisor, the Water Systems Equipment Operator, is responsible for providing full oversight of heavy equipment in accordance with best practices and safe operating procedures. This role supports the site water management through use of heavy equipment for pumping and piping asset set up and by maintaining roads / access to pumping and piping assets across the Copper Mountain Mine (CMM) site.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure that work is carried out in accordance with the tailings management facilities’ (TMF) Operation, Maintenance, Surveillance (OMS) manual and any related water systems OMS manual,
  • Ensures site compliance with mining regulations and follows Copper Mountain Mine site’s safety, quality, and environmental standards in all aspects of work,
  • Observes Occupational Health and Safety Act, Mines Act, and Copper Mountain SOPs,
  • Assists in pipefitting and fusing,
  • Provides bolting and unbolting HDPE pipe,
  • Works with dozer, excavator, grader, and articulating rock trucks,
  • Assists in any operational issues in any area of the mine including relines and support maintenance on mill shutdown days,
  • Performs any other responsibilities related to the Water Systems Equipment Operator position as required or as assigned by the department head.

Education & Experience

  • High School Diploma or General Educational Development (GED),
  • Must have safe rigging or be able to obtain certification,
  • Minimum of two (2) years in the operation of Dozer, Excavator, Grader, and Articulating Rock Truck,
  • Pipefitting/fusing, tailings facility and/or mine water systems experiences preferred,
  • Possess a valid Class 5/7N British Columbia driver’s license and have access to personal transportation

Required Skills

  • Possess strong communication and interpersonal skills,
  • Have high regard for personal safety and the safety of company property and employees,
  • Demonstrated ability in operating equipment as listed by mine procedures and standards – Road Maintenance, Dam Construction,
  • Working knowledge of Tailings operations and Mine Water Systems is an asset,
  • Demonstrates ability to service own equipment and to work in a fast-paced environment,
  • Strong work ethic, capable of performing tasks with minimal supervision,
  • Strong mechanical skills .

Working Conditions

  • Work requires working in heavy industrial environments; these may have conditions that include adverse temperature conditions, both hot and cold; in and/or around moisture; walking on slippery and/or rough, uneven surfaces, in confined spaces; at heights; and involves climbing ladders and stairs,
  • Frequent exposure to uncomfortable conditions associated with the work environment such as noise and working in dusty and wet environments.
  • Exposure to hazardous environments with the requirement of wearing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE),
  • Job requirements are to be clean-shaven.
  • Will be required to be clean-shaven.

Rate of Pay

$45.30 - $46.84/
