Job summary

Ontario Northland is seeking an Engine Attendant (Replacement) in North Bay. Responsibilities include cleaning and servicing railway equipment, operating locomotives and support vehicles, and following safety procedures.

The role may involve weekend shifts and outdoor work in varying weather conditions. The successful candidate will need a secondary school diploma or GED, the ability to pass the Engine Attendants exam, and solid communication and teamwork skills.

Responsibilities

• Operate locomotives, track mobiles and forklifts; turn switches, fueling, sanding and watering locomotives.
• Adapt to new methods, processes, material and equipment.
• Follow prescribed safety procedures including safety clothing and equipment.
• May work various shifts including weekends and outdoors in adverse weather.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

REFERENCE: 300-135-27

RATE OF PAY: $27.77 - $30.88/hour (Increases set out as per the collectiveagreement. Full rate effective after 1 year of service)

ACCOUNTABILITY STATEMENT:

The Engine Attendant will provide ongoing cleaning/labour services to the division in a safe and efficient manner.

MAJOR DUTIES/ RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Cleaning/washing of railway equipment, coaches, parts and shop facilities.
• Operating locomotives, track mobiles and forklifts, turning switches, fueling, sanding andwatering locomotives.
• Adapts to new methods, processes, material and equipment.
• Follows prescribed safety procedures including the use of safety clothing andequipment.
• May work various shifts including weekends and some work outdoors in adverseweather.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS:

• Secondary School Diploma or possess a General Equivalency Diploma (GED)
• Ability to pass the examination for Engine Attendants
• Good interpersonal and communication skills (oral & written)
• Excellent organizational and planning skills
• Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment.
• Must be available for shift work
• Valid driver’s license an asset
• Previous cleaning/labour experience an asset
• Previous railway experience an asset
• Must be committed to Company Health and Safety
