Job summary

SSA Group is partnering with a well-established building performance consultancy in Downtown Toronto to hire an Energy Modeller. You'll join a collaborative team delivering energy modelling and compliance support on ICI new construction and retrofit projects across the GTA.

This role suits someone with 2+ years of energy modelling experience who wants to deepen their technical expertise and work on a varied, high-profile project portfolio.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of energy modelling experience
• Proficiency with IES-VE and/or EnergyPlus
• Knowledge of OBC SB-10 and the Toronto Green Standard
• Understanding of building envelope performance and mechanical/HVAC systems
• Degree or diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Architectural Engineering, Building Science or related field
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Organized and detail-oriented

Responsibilities

• Develop, run and interpret whole-building energy models using IES-VE and EnergyPlus
• Support project teams on both new construction and retrofit projects
• Help projects demonstrate compliance with OBC SB-10, the Toronto Green Standard (TGS) and other municipal and regional performance requirements
• Evaluate design options, including envelope, HVAC systems, lighting and controls, and quantify their energy and carbon impact
• Prepare clear, well-organized modelling reports and compliance documentation
• Give practical, design-focused recommendations to architects, engineers, developers and building owners
• Take part in design team meetings and respond to reviewer comments during the approvals process
• Keep up to date with evolving energy codes, green building standards and modelling best practices

Requirements

• 2+ years of experience in building energy modelling
• Hands-on proficiency with IES-VE and/or EnergyPlus
• Working knowledge of OBC SB-10 and the Toronto Green Standard
• Understanding of building envelope performance and mechanical/HVAC systems
• Degree or diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Architectural Engineering, Building Science, Sustainable Design or a related field
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical results to non-technical stakeholders
• Organized and detail-oriented, able to manage several projects and deadlines at once

Nice to Have

• Experience with LEED, CaGBC Zero Carbon Building, or other green building certification modelling
• Familiarity with ASHRAE 90.1 and NECB
• Experience with retrofit studies, energy audits or utility incentive programs
