Job summary

Energy Modeling Lead — Buildings / MEP Engineering

A respected consulting engineering organization with a strong presence across Southwestern Ontario is seeking an experienced Energy Modeling Lead to join its Buildings Engineering team. This position can be based out of the London office, with flexibility for candidates located in the Kitchener‑Waterloo region.

Position Overview

This role is ideal for a senior building performance professional who enjoys balancing technical excellence with team leadership. The successful candidate will oversee a specialized energy modeling group responsible for building performance analysis, energy compliance studies, and sustainability‑focused consulting services across a range of institutional, commercial, and mixed‑use projects.

In addition to hands‑on technical involvement, the role includes mentoring junior staff, coordinating project resources, and helping shape the continued growth of the firm’s energy and sustainability capabilities.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Provide leadership, guidance, and mentorship to a team focused on building energy analysis and performance modeling
  • Review technical reports, simulations, and compliance documentation to ensure quality and accuracy
  • Coordinate team workloads, project timelines, and resource planning across multiple assignments
  • Assist with project financials, forecasting, budgeting, and overall delivery performance
  • Serve as a technical resource for both internal project teams and external clients
  • Support expansion of the firm’s energy consulting and building performance service offerings
  • Ensure projects align with applicable energy standards, building codes, and sustainability requirements
  • Contribute to permit application packages, compliance submissions, and supporting technical documentation
  • Work collaboratively with mechanical, electrical, architectural, and multidisciplinary teams throughout project delivery
Qualifications & Experience
  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Building Science, or a related technical discipline
  • Professional Engineer designation (P.Eng.) eligible or registered in Ontario
  • Several years of experience in building energy modeling, sustainability consulting, or building performance analysis within a consulting environment
  • Strong knowledge of HVAC systems, building envelopes, and energy efficiency standards
  • Experience using industry‑standard energy simulation software such as eQuest, RETScreen, IESVE, HOT2000, or similar tools
  • Demonstrated leadership, communication, and project coordination skills
  • Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast‑paced consulting setting
