Job summary

Toronto Metropolitan University is seeking an Energy Engineering Project Manager to translate sustainability commitments into measurable campus actions. You will lead projects from concept to implementation, coordinating engineering studies, engaging stakeholders, and delivering energy efficiency improvements and emissions reductions.

The role requires a strong background in mechanical/electrical systems, data analysis, and solid project management with a focus on long-term campus energy

Qualifications

• A post-secondary degree in Mechanical/Electrical/Chemical Engineering or equivalent is required.
• Certified Energy Manager (CEM) is essential.
• PMP designation is preferred; CMVP/CBCP or LEED accreditation is an asset.
• Minimum 5 years in energy project management with experience in budgeting, charters, and SOWs.

Responsibilities

• Lead projects from concept through implementation, coordinating engineering studies and stakeholder engagement.
• Identify opportunities for energy efficiency and emissions reductions and measure outcomes.
• Track energy use, performance, and progress against reduction targets, turning data into actionable insights.

Toronto Metropolitan University's Facilities Management and Development oversees the development, operations and maintenance of the university's buildings, facilities and grounds across four million square feet of space in 42 buildings on 27 acres of land.

The Opportunity

What if the next major step in reducing a university’s carbon footprint starts with the work you lead? As the Energy Engineering Project Manager, you'll help Toronto Metropolitan University turn its sustainability commitments into measurable action. You'll help shape and deliver strategies that reduce energy consumption, lower greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, and build a more sustainable future for the university.

Working closely with the Executive Director, you'll contribute to the development of TMU's long-term strategic energy management and GHG emissions reduction strategies, identifying opportunities where engineering innovation can translate into meaningful environmental and operational impact. You'll assess potential projects and initiatives, evaluate options, establish measures of success, and develop practical approaches to turn ideas into results.

As a project leader, you'll take initiatives from concept through implementation, coordinating engineering studies, engaging stakeholders, and managing projects designed to achieve both immediate energy savings and long-term emissions reduction goals. You'll bring together technical expertise, analytical thinking, and project management to ensure that investments in energy efficiency deliver measurable and lasting results.

You'll also establish and maintain processes for tracking energy use, monitoring performance, and measuring progress against energy and emissions reduction targets. By turning complex energy data into actionable insights, you'll help the university understand what is working, where opportunities remain, and how it can continue to improve.

Qualifications

• A post-secondary degree in Mechanical / Electrical / Chemical Engineering or an equivalent field is required. Certified Energy Manager (CEM) is essential.
• A PMP designation is preferred. Certified Measurement and Verification Professional (CMVP), Certified Building Commissioning Professional (CBCP), or LEED accreditation is an asset.
• A minimum of five (5) years of work experience in a energy project management-related role that includes preparing project charters, budget estimates, statements of work, specifications and tender documents in an institutional environment; extensive experience with utility data analysis and management; experience with identifying opportunities for increasing efficiencies and optimizing energy use, evaluating and or implementing innovative energy efficiency technologies.
• Expert-level knowledge of building, mechanical, electrical systems and building automation systems, read drawings and technical documentations;
• Knowledge of carbon reduction technologies;
• Comprehensive knowledge of project management, contract management, budgeting and financial controls;
• Detailed knowledge of energy commodity markets, trends and contract options;
• Equivalent experience or a combination of equivalent experience and education may be accepted in place of education.
