Job summary

Siemens Mobility in Halifax, NS is seeking an Energy and Decarbonization Engineer to drive energy efficiency and decarbonization initiatives. You will collaborate with clients and our business development team to shape projects, analyze energy performance, and develop robust M&V contracts.

The role requires 5+ years of energy engineering experience, expertise in HVAC and building systems, and strong communication in English.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of energy engineering experience with large HVAC retrofit and building systems.
  • Experience with energy audits, FIMs and decarbonization strategies.
  • Knowledge of M&V protocols (IPMPV) and energy cost analyses.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Client Engagement & Project Development
  • Work closely with clients and Siemens Business Development team to understand customers’ needs, strategic priorities, drive, and support project development activities.
  • Participate and at times lead client meetings and presentations.
  • Lead and support the development of performance contracting proposals.
Energy Analysis & Engineering Assessment
  • Perform thorough utility bill analysis, developing energy intensity indices that provide valuable insights into energy consumption patterns.
  • Conduct comprehensive facility energy audits, leveraging your expertise to identify and recommend facility improvement measures (FIMs) and capital renewal opportunities related to energy efficiency enhancements and decarbonization.
  • Identify potential utility supply-side opportunities, allowing our customers to optimize their energy usage and reduce their environmental impact.
  • Independently perform detailed engineering calculations to assess energy / costs / GHG reduction potential, including financial and life-cycle analyses.
Technical Measurement, Verification & Data Collection
  • Take or supervise equipment measurements, data logging, and equipment trending.
  • Collaborate on developing measurement and verification (M&V) contract documents, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of performance data.
Reporting, Documentation & Design Support
  • Develop design concepts and other written documentation to sales and management concerning recommended FIMs, including accurate descriptions, savings potential, cost estimates and backup data to verify FIMs.
Location:

This is a hybrid role requiring in-office presence (1-3 days/week) in our Halifax/Dartmouth NS office.

What will you need to succeed?
Experience & Technical Expertise:
  • Minimum 5 years of Energy Engineering experience with large HVAC Retrofit, Mechanical, Electrical and Controls Projects, including Building Optimization and Performance Assurance (Measurement & Verification) experience.
  • Expertise in building central plants / HVAC / electrical systems / lighting systems, building automation, building envelope, domestic water systems, energy profiling and decarbonization pathways.
  • Expertise in alternative energy systems including cogeneration, solar PV and solar thermal systems.
  • Expertise in common building, HVAC and electrical building codes.
  • Awareness of Measurement & Verification protocols, such as IPMPV.
  • Proficiency with MS suite of applications.
Professional Acumen and Competencies:
  • Possess strong business acumen.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills, and ability to communicate with contractors, consultants, and customer representatives from technical to C-suite level.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.
Other Requirements:
  • A valid and unrestricted G/Class 5 driver’s licence and vehicle is for travel to customer sites within assigned region(s).
  • Travel: involves variable travel requirements within the Halifax/Dartmouth, with periods of up to 100% travel during certain weeks, balanced by periods of minimal travel. Flexibility in scheduling and willingness to accommodate fluctuating travel demands is essential.
  • A passion for decarbonization, innovation, and making a difference towards a more sustainable future.
  • General knowledge of Health & Safety procedures.
Asset(s):
  • Professional Engineering designation and/or CMVP certification.
  • Bilingual French communication skills.
