Job summary

Wesley in Hamilton, Ontario seeks an Employment Case Manager to support asylum seekers and refugees, helping them integrate into the community with a client-centered, trauma-informed approach. Qualifications

  • Social Service Worker diploma or equivalent.
  • Second language ability is an asset: Somali, Swahili, or Arabic preferred.
  • Must be registered and in good standing with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers or eligible for registration within 90 days of start.
  • Minimum 1–2 years of Intensive Case Management with a vulnerable population, including trauma victims.
  • Comprehensive understanding of Employment support programs and services for asylum seekers.

Responsibilities

  • Welcome, interact with, and support clients accessing the program and be available to address needs.
  • Conduct initial intake and needs assessment for each client/family.
  • Provide Employment related support to job seekers.
  • Provide client-centered/trauma-informed information and referrals.
  • Maintain up-to-date client files, complete government forms, write case notes, and follow up with clients.
  • Conduct job search appointments and enter data correctly.
  • Advocate on behalf of clients for services and resources in the community.
  • Provide life skills, telephone support, and crisis intervention as needed.
  • Participate in case management meetings with internal staff and external service providers.
  • Collaborate with internal programs and external providers to support asylum seekers and other newcomers.

Are you the one we’re looking for?

We are seeking a dynamic, highlymotivated Employment Case Manager who demonstrates our values of compassion, accountability, responsiveness, and empowerment; to our clients, families, and each other.

The Employment Case Manager is responsible for providing case management support to Asylum Seekers/Refugee Claimants inHamilton. The Employment Case Manager will hold a caseload, comprised of individuals and families, which they will assist in integrating into the community to ensure community connection.

This position is a permanentunionized, full-timeposition. The rate of pay is$24.65per hour. The hours for this position are 40 hours per week.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Welcome, interact, and support clients accessing the program and be available and approachable to address clients’ needs as they arise.
  2. Conduct initial intake and needs assessment to understand the individual needs of each client/family.
  3. Special attention and time will be to provide Employment related support to job seekers
  4. Provide appropriate client-centered/trauma-informed information and referral regarding the various services and resources available in the community.
  5. Manage and maintain up-to-date client files, complete government documents and forms, provide referrals, write case notes, and provide regular follow-up with clients as needed.
  6. Conduct job search appointments, coordinate with team and enter data correctly as per completion of work during appointments
  7. Advocate on behalf of clients for services and resources in the community.
  8. Provide life skills, telephone support, and crisis intervention as needed.
  9. Participate in case management meetings with internal staff and external service providers.
  10. Maintain good relationships and collaborate with other internal programs and external service providers to provide support to Asylum Seekers and other newcomer job seekers.
What you will bring:
  1. Minimum; Social Service Worker diploma or equivalent with relevant practical experience working with newcomers.
  2. Advanced knowledge of a second language is an asset: Somali, Swahili, or Arabic preferred.
  3. Must be registered and in good standing with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers or eligible for registration at the time of employment is required. Note: registration must be completed within 90 days after the start of employment.
  4. Minimum 1-2 years of experience in an Intensive Case Management role serving a vulnerable population, including victims of trauma, is required.
  5. Comprehensive understanding of Employment support programs, and available support to Asylum seekers
