Emergency Management Assistant Coordinator

Duration: Temporary Full Time

Salary: $5,270 – 5,491 – 5,719 – 5,957 – 6,200/month (2024 Rates)

Schedule: 70 hours bi-weekly; Monday to Friday from 8:00 AM – 4:45 PM (Nine-Day Fortnight)

Overview

This position works in the Emergency Planning organizational unit. This is specialized administrative work assisting with the Emergency Management Programs and activities. An incumbent of this class assists with the development, delivery and maintenance of the integrated plans for emergency preparedness programs; conducts research and analyzes a variety of information pertaining to the program; assists the Emergency Management Coordinator with managing operations, implementing work plans, emergency management plans and protocols; coordinates the City’s emergency management volunteer program; conducts meetings and training sessions; plans and participates in emergency exercises as required; establishes and maintains effective relationships with a variety of internal and external contacts. Considerable independence of judgement and action is exercised with established policies and procedures, referring unusual or policy matters to a supervisor who reviews work performance in terms of conformance to established policies and procedures and effectiveness of support services. Performs related work as required.

  • Exercise considerable independence of judgement and action within established policies and procedures; refer unusual matters to a supervisor.
Qualifications
  • Completion of Grade 12 supplemented by Emergency Management Certificate plus considerable related experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Considerable knowledge of the philosophy, objectives, policies, regulations, practices, and procedures of the Emergency Management Program.
  • Sound knowledge of methods and practices for volunteer management and training programs; knowledge of the Provincial Emergency Program and related legislation, regulations, rules, and standards.
  • Ability to conduct training and professional information sessions; work with confidential information; make decisions in accordance with applicable policies and regulations; act with some authority under minimal supervision.
  • A valid Driver’s Licence for the Province of British Columbia is required.
Term

This is a temporary full time position until September 30, 2027.
