Job summary

Nova Scotia Health is seeking a Communications Call Centre Attendant (Locating) to provide a direct communications interface to physicians, clinics, patients, ORs, emergency response and Public Health organizations within the health system. You will manage emergency calls and coordinate on-call teams, ensuring pager replacement and maintenance for over 16,000 users.

This permanent, full-time role offers shifts including days, evenings, weekends and overnights.

Qualifications

• Grade XII and one year previous related experience required.
• Must commit to a 2-3 month training period and pass the required test to become accredited.
• Computer skills including Word and Excel.
• Knowledge of pagers, cell phones, Blackberrys, single and multi-line landline telephone sets, teleconference sets and headsets.
• Previous experience in health care/emergency or related field is an asset.
• Demonstrated effective communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to respond to, follow and interpret emergency procedures.
• Knowledge of medical terminology an asset.
• Typing skills.
• Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct communications interface to physicians, clinics, patients, ORs, emergency response and Public Health organizations.
• Receive all internal emergency calls and coordinate appropriate response teams.
• Integrate and manage on-call duty sheets and coordinate communications to on-call staff.
• Coordinate assignments such as MOTP, SAFE, OR and PACU teams.
• Manage operational needs of pager users and pager maintenance services.
