Job summary

Fort McMurray Catholic School Division is seeking a full-time Educational Assistant for elementary grades 1-6. The position involves supporting students across cognition, communication, physical and social development while working with teachers and a multi-disciplinary team.

The candidate will implement teacher-directed programs, manage behaviours and support learning with assistive technologies. Training may include NVCI Level A&B; medical support may be required as part of student care.

Qualifications

• Educational Assistant Certification or Diploma required.
• May be required to obtain NVCI Level A&B.

Responsibilities

• Support students' growth in cognition, communication, physical and social development.
• Support and implement teacher-directed programming.
• Collaborate under guidance of teacher, CST and multi-disciplinary team.
• Implement specialist strategies (OT, PT, SLP, etc) to achieve goals.
• Apply behaviour management and educational strategies to facilitate learning.
• Communicate effectively with students using age-appropriate positive reinforcements.
• Observe student behaviour to promote positive outcomes and mitigate issues.
• Provide structure to help complete learning outcomes.
• Support students with adaptive and learning technologies across devices.
• Implement the Positive Behaviour Plan when required.
• Assist with medical procedures and complex needs as required.
• Understand and support modified curriculum for Autism or other needs.
• Physically assist and transfer students when necessary.
• Provide supervision during indoor and outdoor activities.
