Job summary

Fort McMurray Catholic Schools is seeking an Educational Assistant to support elementary students in Grades 1–6. The position is based in St. Anne with 25–31 hours per week and an ASAP start date.

The role involves assisting with cognition, communication, physical and social development, and supporting teacher-directed programming under the guidance of the classroom team. Qualifications include an Educational Assistant Certificate or Diploma, with a possible requirement for NVCI Level A&B.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Support students' growth in cognition, communication, physical and social development
• Support and/or implement teacher directed programming
• Work collaboratively under guidance of teacher, CST and multidisciplinary team
• Implement specialist strategies (OT, PT, SLP, etc) to achieve goals
• Use behaviour management strategies to facilitate learning
• Communicate with students using age-appropriate positive reinforcement
• Observe student behaviour to promote positive outcomes and prevent issues
• Provide high level of structure to complete learning outcomes
• Assist with use of adaptive/learning technologies
• Assist with the Positive Behaviour Plan if required
• Provide medical support as needed (catheter, tube feeding, diabetic monitoring)
• Understand and support modified curriculum for students with Autism or complex medical needs
• Physically assist and transfer students when needed
• Provide supervision at school activities

Education
