Job summary

Fort McMurray Catholic Schools is seeking an Educational Assistant (EY-4) to support students in Elementary grades 1-6. The role is half-time (12.5–15.5 hours per week) with ASAP start and an August 26, 2026 closing date.

The successful candidate will hold an Educational Assistant Certificate or Diploma and may need NVCI Level A&B. Responsibilities include supporting cognition, communication, physical and social development, and implementing teacher-directed programming.

Qualifications

• Support students' growth in cognition, communication, physical and social development
• Work collaboratively under guidance of teacher, CST and multi-disciplinary team
• Implement specialist strategies to achieve goals (OT, PT, SLP, etc)
• Implement behaviour management and educational strategies that facilitate learning
• Communicate effectively with students using positive reinforcements
• Observe student behaviour to achieve positive outcomes
• Provide structure to facilitate completion of learning outcomes
• Assist with adaptive/learning technologies using various devices
• Follow the Positive Behaviour Plan (PBP) if required
• Medical procedures support (catheter, feeding, diabetes monitoring)
• Understand and support modified curriculum
• Support students with Autism or complex medical needs
• Physically lift/transfer students as needed
• Provide supervision indoors and outdoors

• Provide high level of structure to facilitate completion of required learning outcomes
• Work and play at student's physical level of their activities
• Provide support in use of adaptive and learning technologies using a variety of devices and associated programs
• Successfully implement the Positive Behaviour Plan(PBP), if required
• Medical Procedures – such as Catheter, Tube feeding, Feeding and swallowing support, or diabetic monitoring
• Able to understand, implement and support modified curriculum
• Able to work with and support students with Autism or complex medical needs
• Physically handle and transfer students when unsafe
• Physical ability to lift and move students
• Provide school directed indoor and outdoor student supervision

Employee is expected to work with behaviours related/associated with conduct, obsessive/compulsive, trauma and stress related, severe chronic depressive, feeding and/or eating disorders etc. Other behaviours related to ADHD, emotional/behavioural, learning and speech & language-related disabilities, etc may be encountered.
