Responsibilities
OVERALL PURPOSE:
The Electronics Technician is responsible for the scheduled maintenance, installation, adjustment, calibration, testing, fabrication, troubleshooting and repair of all Signaling and Telecommunications systems required to maintain a safe and reliable SkyTrain operation.
Duties And Responsibilities
Works within policies and procedures defined by the Company and follows approved technical methods for the performance of scheduled maintenance, installation, adjustment, calibration, testing, fabrication, troubleshooting and repairs of all Signaling and Telecommunications systems. Some innovation will be necessary, but requires approval of the Electronics Systems Supervisor.
Signs off all work as completed to standard.
Understands the organization’s maintenance strategy and system service objectives and functions as a team member to effectively obtain these objectives.
Performs in-depth troubleshooting and repair of Signaling and Telecommunications systems including, but not limited to: Automatic Train Control (ATC) equipment, switch machines, Telecommunications, LAN, Safety Systems such as FLSS, Intrusion Systems, SCADA and PLC, CCTV, Security Systems such as WMS and Card Access.
Interprets maintenance manuals, blueprints, schematics and drawings, and prepares drawings of schematics to communicate with others in performance of work.
Makes recommendations for system and procedural changes utilizing the standard TSR program.
Accountable for all materials and equipment used in the performance of maintenance effort.
Performs tests and prepares reports as required.
Attends technical and safety training programs to continually upgrade skills.
Assists with the direction of contract staff for any of the systems.
Handles emergencies and failures in accordance with established procedures through immediate response and quick action.
Performs related duties as assigned such being of a minor nature which do not affect the value of the job.
Safety Requirements
As per WorkSafeBC regulations, this job requires an annual fit test and may necessitate the use of a respirator. In either case, the employee must be clean shaven. Any exemption requests should be raised to Occupational Health and/or Labour Relations for consideration.
Qualifications
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Graduation from a two (2) year Electronics Technical program from a recognized technical institute (BCIT or equivalent) in Electronics, Systems, Telecommunications and Network/LAN .
A minimum of five (5) years recent related trades experience in the Telecommunications and Network/LAN industry in the maintenance, troubleshooting and repair related to Electronic and Telecommunications equipment and systems.
Valid class 5 BC driver’s license.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment.
Other Information
Recruitment Process: An applicant will be required to demonstrate their suitability for this position by meeting the minimum level of qualifications and experience in order to be invited into the selection process. A standard interview format will be used including general, scenario and behavioural descriptive interview questions.
Work Schedule
40 hours per week.
The position follows a 4-day workweek with 3 consecutive days off, 10 hour days. Shifts will either run from Monday to Thursday or Tuesday to Friday.
The selected candidate will likely begin on the graveyard shift. Over time, and depending on seniority, there may be opportunities to transition to morning or afternoon shifts.

Rate of Pay
Wage: $56.85 per hour
Please note: All new employees will be subject to a 6-week trainee rate at 75% of the hourly rate with the remainder of the first year at 90% of the hourly rate.
