About The Role

We are an innovative aerospace-focused IoT company seeking a highly motivated and hands-on Electronics Team Lead.

Job Title: Electronics Team Lead

Location: Edmonton, Alberta

Employment Type: Full-Time

Experience Level: Team Lead, Senior

Reports To: CTO

Role Overview

This role combines technical expertise with leadership. You will design and build embedded electronics for low-power, wireless, battery-operated systems, while scaling and mentoring a growing engineering team. Key Responsibilities
  1. Lead and mentor the electronics engineering team, with the goal of scaling the team to its current size.
  2. Own the design and development of low-power microcontroller-based boards with BLE, Li-Ion/NiMH battery systems, and solar charging.
  3. Drive innovation in ultra-low power design for aerospace-grade wireless IoT applications.
  4. Participate in schematic capture, PCB layout, testing, and validation.
  5. Familiarity with communication protocols such as ARINC, CAN, Ethernet, and associated electronics design.
  6. Guide and perform component selection focusing on efficiency, performance, and scalability.
  7. Collaborate with firmware, mechanical, and product teams for cross-functional development.
  8. Ensure high reliability, safety, and manufacturability (DFM/DFT) of hardware products.
  9. Support hiring, onboarding, and mentorship of new team members.
  10. Work with leadership on technical direction, architecture, and roadmap alignment.
Requirements
  1. BSc or MSc in Electronics Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechatronics, or related field.
  2. 5+ years of hands-on experience in electronics design, especially for wireless, battery-operated systems.
  3. Strong understanding and practical experience with BLE protocols, Li-Ion batteries, solar power management, low-power microcontrollers, and wireless sensors.
  4. Experience with microcontrollers/processors such as Nordic, STM32, TI-MSP430, ESP32, Silicon Labs, or similar.
  5. Proficiency with tools like Altium Designer and KiCad.
  6. Proven experience in scaling or building engineering teams.
  7. Excellent communication skills with a leadership mindset and ability to align technology with business goals.
  8. Self-motivated problem-solver who thrives in a high-ownership, innovative culture.
Beneficial To Have
  1. Experience in highly regulated environments.
  2. Experience in aerospace electronics, harsh environment deployments, or mission-critical systems.
  3. Knowledge of RF design, antenna tuning, or EMI/EMC compliance.
  4. Understanding of hardware certification processes (CE, FCC, FAA, etc.).
  5. Experience with manufacturing and test automation tools.
