Job summary

Brandt in Canada seeks an Electrical Technologist to support the Building Design Team. You will assist with electrical calculations, design, and coordination across projects, including contract administration and energy modelling.

You will collaborate with Architects, Engineers, and Technologists, prepare drawings and specs in REVIT/AutoCAD, and contribute to meetings, reports, and lifecycle analysis. A strong detail orientation and teamwork are essential.

Qualifications

  • Certificate from Electrical Engineering Technologist program.
  • 3+ years' experience in a Consulting office, with design development, detailed design, coordination, and admin services.
  • Professional Technologist – P.Tech designation is an asset.
  • Proficiency with REVIT & AutoCAD software is required.
  • Knowledge of NBCC, Electrical Code, and industry practice & regulations.
  • Knowledge of Energy Code requirements and energy modelling software.
  • Candidate will work on multiple projects with Engineers, Architects, and Technologists.
  • Meticulous attention to detail with strong communication and teamwork.

Responsibilities

  • Review and investigate preliminary Electrical layout and system options during planning and schematic design.
  • Analyze electrical load and lighting calculations, design and detailing of Electrical systems.
  • Prepare contract drawings, specifications, schedules, and sketches from concept to construction.
  • Prepare REVIT & AutoCAD drawings for Electrical systems, including plan layouts and specifications.
  • Prepare cost estimates, tender documents and Engineering reports.
  • Complete Energy Model submissions for buildings across Canada.
  • Perform Contract Administration duties including meetings, submittals, site inspection, and minutes.
  • Review and improve engineering designs and coordinate project tasks.
  • Monitor project costs and schedule; develop lifecycle and green building procedures.
  • Support Building Design Team and assist other discipline Technologists as needed.

Job description

This position is responsible for providing support to the Building Design Team. Tasks include assisting with Electrical system calculations and design, internal collaboration for production of design documents (drawings and specifications), contract administration tasks and Engineering reports for building design projects across Canada.

What You Will Be Responsible For
  • Review and investigate preliminary Electrical layout and system options during the planning and schematic design process, to meet the site and clients' requirements.
  • Analysis, Electrical load and lighting calculations, design and detailing of Electrical systems for all buildings design projects.
  • Collaborate with design disciplines (Architectural, Structural, Mechanical, Civil, Interior Design) to prepare contract drawings, specifications, schedules, details, and sketches from conceptual design through to construction, for both new & renovations buildings projects, meeting sound engineering practices and standards.
  • Prepare REVIT & AutoCAD drawings for Electrical systems including plan layouts, schematics, specifications, equipment schedules and construction & technical details pertaining to Electrical power, lighting, data and network, building access and security systems.
  • Preparation of cost estimates, tender contract documents and Engineering reports.
  • Complete Energy Model process and submissions for various buildings in jurisdictions across Canada.
  • Perform the Contract Administration duties on the projects including attending meetings, travel as required, submittal reviews, supplemental instructions, price requests, site inspection reports, meeting minutes, and all other aspects of the project for compliance with the Brandt Standards.
  • Review, evaluate, and improve upon Engineering designs, drafting, schematics and specifications, coordinate and follow up with project tasks.
  • Project cost monitoring and schedule control as requested.
  • Perform life-cycle analysis and develop green building procedures.
  • Support the Building Design Team as required, including internal collaboration, and assisting with other discipline Technologist tasks as required to ensure project success.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
What We Look For
  • Certificate from Electrical Engineering Technologist program.
  • 3+ years' experience in a Consulting office, with experience in design development, detailed design, design coordination, and construction admin services.
  • Professional Technologist – P.Tech designation is an asset.
  • Proficiency with AutoDESK REVIT & AutoCAD software is required.

  • Good written & verbal communication skills, enthusiasm with strong work ethic and team involvement.
