Job summary

Brandt Developments Ltd is seeking an Electrical Engineer to lead design and coordination of electrical systems for new buildings and renovations across Canada. You will collaborate with architects, structural and mechanical teams to produce contract drawings and specifications from concept to construction.

The role requires a degree in electrical engineering, 5+ years in a consulting office, P.Eng or E.I.T eligibility, and proficiency in Revit and AutoCAD.

Qualifications

  • Electrical Engineering degree required.
  • 5+ years in a consulting office (design, detailing, coordination, and construction admin).
  • Licensed to practice as Professional Engineer – P.Eng or Engineer-in-Training – E.I.T. in a Canadian Province.
  • Proficiency with Revit and AutoCAD.

Responsibilities

  • Review preliminary electrical layouts and options during planning and schematic design.
  • Analysis, electrical load and lighting calculations, design and detailing of electrical systems.
  • Collaborate with design disciplines to prepare contract drawings, specifications, schedules and sketches from concept to construction.
  • Prepare calculations, Revit & AutoCAD drawings for electrical systems and equipment schedules.
  • Energy model processes and submissions across Canada.
  • Contract administration duties including meetings, submittals and site inspections.

Job description

The Electrical Engineer is responsible for the design and coordinating of Electrical Engineering works associated with the construction of new buildings and renovation projects for the Building Design Team. Tasks include assisting with Electrical system calculations and design, internal collaboration for production of design documents (drawings and specifications), contract administration tasks and Engineering reports for building design projects across Canada.

What You Will Be Responsible For
  • Review and investigate preliminary Electrical layout and system options during the planning and schematic design process, to meet the site and clients’ requirements.
  • Analysis, Electrical load and lighting calculations, design and detailing of Electrical systems for all buildings design projects.
  • Collaborate with design disciplines (Architectural, Structural, Mechanical, Civil, Interior Design) to prepare contract drawings, specifications, schedules, details, and sketches from conceptual design through to construction, for both new & renovations buildings projects, meeting sound engineering practices and standards.
  • Prepare calculations, REVIT & AutoCAD drawings for Electrical systems including plan layouts, schematics, specifications, equipment schedules and construction & technical details pertaining to Electrical power, lighting, data and network, building access and security systems.
  • Preparation of cost estimates, tender contract documents and Engineering reports.
  • Complete Energy Model process and submissions for various buildings in jurisdictions across Canada.
  • Perform the Contract Administration duties on the projects including attending meetings, travel as required, submittal reviews, supplemental instructions, price requests, site inspection reports, meeting minutes, and all other aspects of the project for compliance with the Brandt Standards.
  • Review, evaluate, and improve upon Engineering designs, drafting, schematics and specifications, coordinate and follow up with project tasks.
  • Project cost monitoring and schedule control as requested.
  • Perform life-cycle analysis and develop green building procedures.
  • Support the Building Design Team as required, including internal collaboration, and assisting with other discipline Engineer tasks as required to ensure project success.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
What We Look For
  • Electrical Engineering Degree is required.
  • 5+ years’ experience in a Consulting office, experience in design, detailing, coordination and construction admin services.
  • Licensed to practice as “Professional Engineer – P.Eng” or “Engineer-in-Training – E.I.T.” in a Canadian Province is required.
  • Proficiency with AutoDESK REVIT & AutoCAD software is required.
  • Knowledge of National Building Code of Canada (NBCC), Electrical Code, Energy Code and industry practice & regulations/applicable Codes having jurisdiction.
  • Candidates will be required to work on multiple projects and collaborate with a team of Engineers, Architects, and Technologists.
  • Meticulous attention to detail, strong Electrical background with focus on commercial building design and construction practices is preferred.
  • Good written & verbal communication skills, enthusiasm with strong work ethic and team involvement.
