Job summary

J.D. Irving, Limited is offering Winter 2027 work terms for Electrical, Instrumentation and Controls Technician Students in Saint John and Utopia, New Brunswick.

Students will join a safety-conscious team within the Pulp & Paper Division and gain hands-on experience across electrical and instrumentation trades. You will assist in troubleshooting PLC/DCS systems, support maintenance activities, and collaborate with qualified tradespeople to drive continual improvement.

Qualifications

• Education: High School Diploma and enrollment in a 3-year Electrical, Controls and Technology program in good academic standing.
• Availability for full-time work January–April 2027.
• Problem-solving skills.
• Team player with excellent interpersonal skills.
• Pulp and Paper or heavy industry experience would be considered an asset.

Responsibilities

• Assist in troubleshooting and programming in distributed controls (DCS) and programmable logic controllers (PLC).
• Students will assist qualified tradespeople in day-to-day activities.
• Maintain and install control equipment.
• Support preventative maintenance, continuous improvement and process improvement initiatives.
