Job summary

US Tech Solutions in Richmond, BC is seeking an Electrical Engineer – Power Electronics for a 6-month contract to design, test, validate and commission power electronics systems and distribution solutions.

You will perform design work, schematics generation, component selection, and testing across lab environments, ensuring compliance with industry standards while supporting root cause analysis and field support.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering required.
  • Master's Degree preferred in Electrical Engineering, Power Electronics, or related field.
  • P.Eng. designation or eligibility considered an asset.
  • 3+ years of experience in power electronics, electrical design, testing, or power systems engineering.
  • Experience in lab, manufacturing, R&D, utility, or renewable energy environments.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop power electronic systems, converters, inverters, rectifiers, UPS, battery interfaces, and distribution equipment.
  • Generate and review electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and system documentation.
  • Perform electrical calculations, component selection, and design verification activities.
  • Support design optimization to improve reliability, efficiency, and manufacturability.
  • Ensure compliance with electrical codes and safety requirements.
  • Develop and execute validation plans and tests for power electronic systems.
  • Create test methods and protocols to evaluate electrical performance and reliability.
  • Conduct functional, environmental, electrical, and thermal testing.
  • Design test fixtures and automated test setups.
  • Analyze test data and prepare technical reports with findings.

Description

The Electrical Engineer - Power Electronics is responsible for the design, development, testing, validation, troubleshooting, and commissioning of power electronic systems and electrical power distribution solutions. This role combines electrical engineering expertise with hands‑on laboratory testing, product verification, root cause analysis, and cross‑functional collaboration to ensure products meet performance, safety, quality, regulatory, and customer requirements. The engineer will support all phases of the product lifecycle, from concept development through testing, validation, deployment, and continuous improvement.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) required.
  • Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Electronics, Energy Systems, Electronics Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, or related engineering discipline preferred.
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation or eligibility considered an asset.
  • 3+ years of experience in power electronics, electrical design, testing, validation, or power systems engineering.
  • Experience working in laboratory, manufacturing, R&D, utility, industrial, renewable energy, or power distribution environments.
Key Responsibilities
Power Electronics Design & Development
  • Design and develop power electronic systems, converters, inverters, rectifiers, UPS systems, battery energy storage interfaces, and power distribution equipment.
  • Generate and review electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, one‑line diagrams, and system documentation.
  • Perform electrical calculations, component selection, and design verification activities.
  • Support design optimization activities to improve reliability, efficiency, manufacturability, and product performance.
  • Ensure compliance with electrical codes, industry standards, and safety requirements.
Electrical Testing & Validation
  • Develop and execute validation plans, verification procedures, and qualification testing for power electronic systems.
  • Create complex test methods and test protocols to evaluate electrical performance and product reliability.
  • Conduct functional, environmental, electrical, thermal, and performance testing.
  • Design and develop test fixtures and automated test setups.
  • Analyze test data and prepare technical reports documenting findings and recommendations.
  • Verify product performance against specifications, customer requirements, and applicable standards.
  • Support root cause investigations and corrective action implementation for electrical failures and quality concerns.
Commissioning & Troubleshooting
  • Perform commissioning, startup, troubleshooting, and field support activities.
  • Diagnose electrical, power electronic, and control system failures.
  • Utilize advanced diagnostic tools to identify performance issues and optimize system operation.
  • Collaborate with field service, manufacturing, quality, and engineering teams to resolve complex technical issues.
  • Support customer acceptance testing and factory acceptance testing (FAT/SAT).
Project & Technical Leadership
  • Lead engineering tasks from concept through deployment.
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams including design, software, controls, manufacturing, quality, and test engineering.
  • Identify technical risks and develop mitigation plans.
  • Participate in design reviews, technical audits, and product improvement initiatives.
  • Provide technical guidance to junior engineers and technicians.
