Job summary

Randstad Canada is seeking an Electrical Engineer - Power Electronics for a 6-month role in Richmond, BC. You will design, test, and validate power electronic systems and drive electrical distribution solutions across PV inverters, BESS, and EV chargers.

The role emphasizes hands-on lab testing, root cause analysis, and cross-functional collaboration to ensure safety, quality, and compliance throughout the product lifecycle, from concept through deployment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant technical field (Electrical, Mechatronics, Engineering Physics, Computer Science, Controls).
  • Experience in product development and ownership of systems, IoT offerings.
  • Proven track record in fast-paced cross-functional R&D environments.
  • Strong knowledge of AC circuits (3‑phase, harmonics, analysis).
  • Experience with measurement tools and CAN/Ethernet networks.
  • Basic coding in C and Python.
  • Experience testing and troubleshooting Cloud APIs.
  • Demonstrated systematic approach to testing and debugging complex systems.

Responsibilities

  • Define and manage system and product requirements for PV inverters, BESS, EV chargers, and energy management solutions.
  • Develop verification strategies, test plans, and procedures based on requirements.
  • Execute functional, performance, reliability, regression, and qualification tests in lab and field environments.
  • Validate product operation across electrical, thermal, environmental, and communication conditions.
  • Ensure traceability between requirements, test cases, defects, and test results throughout the lifecycle.
  • Support system integration involving hardware, firmware, software, interfaces, and control algorithms.
  • Perform troubleshooting and root cause analysis with cross-functional teams.
  • Support product qualification, reliability assessments, compliance testing, and certification activities.
  • Plan and maintain test infrastructure and documentation using Jira and Confluence.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to improve system performance, functionality, and product quality.

Are you an Electrical Engineer with adequate experience in electronic systems and power distribution? This 6-month role with chances of extension maybe a good fit for you.

The Electrical Engineer - Power Electronics is responsible for the design, development, testing, validation, troubleshooting, and commissioning of power electronic systems and electrical power distribution solutions. This role combines electrical engineering expertise with hands‑on laboratory testing, product verification, root cause analysis, and cross-functional collaboration to ensure products meet performance, safety, quality, regulatory, and customer requirements. The engineer will support all phases of the product lifecycle, from concept development through testing, validation, deployment, and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities
  • Support the definition, analysis, and management of system and product requirements for PV inverters, battery energy storage systems (BESS), EV chargers, and energy management solutions.
  • Develop verification and validation strategies, test plans, and test procedures based on system and functional requirements.
  • Execute functional, performance, reliability, regression, and qualification testing at the board, subsystem, and system levels in laboratory and field environments.
  • Validate product operation across a wide range of electrical, thermal, environmental, and communication conditions.
  • Ensure traceability between requirements, test cases, defects, and test results throughout the product development lifecycle.
  • Support system integration activities involve hardware, firmware, software, communication interfaces, and control algorithms.
  • Perform troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and defect management, coordinating resolution with cross-functional engineering teams.
  • Support product qualification, reliability assessments, compliance testing, and certification activities.
  • Plan and maintain test infrastructure and documentation, using tools such as Jira and Confluence to manage requirements, changes, and verification artifacts.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to improve system performance, functionality, and product quality throughout the development lifecycle.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant technical field (e.g., Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Engineering Physics, Computer Science, Controls Engineering).
  • Design Engineer and years of System Engineer experience in systems design and ownership of product, systems, and/or complex IoT offers.
  • Proven record of working in fast‑paced product development environment, team player, say what you mean – mean what you say
  • Experience working in cross‑functional multi-disciplinary R&D environments
  • Strong knowledge of AC circuits (complex analysis, harmonics, 3‑phase circuits and their decomposition, control schemes etc.)
  • Experience with AC, DC sources, electronic loads, batteries
  • Experience with measurement tools: oscilloscopes, power analyzers, CAN analyzers
  • Experience Communication networks (CAN, Modbus, Ethernet etc.) and corresponding protocols
  • Basic coding and scripting skills (C, Python)
  • Experience testing and troubleshooting Cloud APIs
  • Demonstrated systematic approach to testing execution, troubleshooting, and problem solving with familiarity debugging complex systems
Engineering Top 3 Skills
  • 3+ years Design Engineering with no support
  • 2+ years Systems Engineer prior with added duty
  • Complex IoT and electrical knowledge
Systems Engineer Experience
  • 5-8 years experience.
  • 5+ years of Design
  • Degree in Engineering. (Electrical, Mechatronics, Physics, Computer Science, Controls)
  • 5 years of Design Engineering all around.
