Job description

Overview

Engineering Service Business Unit focuses on power system software development, power system and substation consulting studies and compliance testing services, as well as asset management solutions for electric utilities and other clients in the power industry. We are the vendor of the cutting‑edge power system analysis software package, DSATools, which has been recognized globally as a leading technology and software platform for dynamic security assessment of large complex power systems for both off‑line system planning and on‑line real‑time operation. We also provide a full spectrum of study services from fast electromagnetic transient switching studies to typical power system planning and operation studies (including transient, small‑signal, voltage, and frequency stabilities), post‑mortem investigation of system disturbances and events, generation and load interconnection studies, generator including wind and solar renewables, and load model development or validation via field testing, and NERC compliance studies (e.g., TPL, PRC, MOD, CIP, etc.).

Key Responsibilities
  • Reviewing power plant technical documentation and preparing unit‑specific test plans in accordance with applicable standards and project requirements.
  • Conducting power system simulation studies aligned with NERC and other reliability standards.
  • Preparing detailed engineering reports communicating methodologies, analysis, and findings.
  • Performing peer reviews of technical reports to ensure quality and compliance.
  • Traveling to industrial and power generation sites globally to perform onsite generator model validation testing.
  • Developing technical proposals, including scope, cost estimates, and project schedules.
  • Collaborating with internal teams, clients, and stakeholders to ensure successful execution.
  • Remote work is acceptable, provided deliverables meet expectations.
Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering (Power Systems strongly preferred); Bachelor’s degree with direct and relevant experience will be considered.
  • Registered as a Professional Engineer with the Engineers and Geoscientists of British Columbia (EGBC) or other jurisdictions.
  • At least five years of work experience in power system transient stability studies, protection & control, or related post‑grad research.
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of generator and renewable modelling, power system and/or substation protections, and control systems of synchronous generators, renewables, FACTS, etc.
  • Knowledge and demonstrated experience in power plant (thermal, solar, wind, BESS, etc.) power flow, dynamic and short circuit analysis using simulation software (PSCAD, DSATools, PSS/E, PSLF, ASPEN, ETAP, etc.).
  • Knowledge and demonstrated experience in power plant and generator protection and control theory and practice on relay instruments (SEL, Beckwith, GE Multilin, etc.).
  • Experience on site commissioning and testing, including regular field work following procedures, data collection using digital DAQ systems, control equipment function and communication troubleshooting, safety training and awareness, considered an asset.
  • Must hold a valid class 5 BC driver’s license or equivalent. Willing and eligible to work and travel in the US for site testing.
