Job summary

BBA Consultants is seeking an experienced electrical engineer to join our team in Canada. You will design electrical power systems for hydroelectric plants, including medium- and low-voltage switchgear, and participate in feasibility studies and detailed engineering.

You will prepare and review drawings, perform electrical sizing calculations, review vendor data, and draft installation specifications. Collaboration with structural, civil, control, and other teams is essential, including site

Qualifications

  • University degree in electrical engineering.
  • Member of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec.
  • Ten years of proven experience in electrical engineering, ideally in hydroelectric power plant projects or power installations.
  • Knowledge of utility standards and practices.
  • Strong command of design methods for electrical power and distribution systems.
  • Experience with design software (AutoCAD and similar tools).
  • Advanced French skills to facilitate collaboration with other BBA offices and/or clients in Québec.
  • Advanced English skills to facilitate collaboration with other BBA offices and/or clients in English-speaking Canadian provinces and internationally; you may need to use English occasionally or daily, depending on current projects.
  • Knowledge of applicable codes and standards, including the Québec Electrical Code.

Responsibilities

  • Design electrical power systems for hydroelectric power plants, including medium- and low-voltage switchgear.
  • Participate in preliminary and feasibility studies as well as detailed engineering.
  • Develop layout and installation engineering for electrical apparatus, including: medium-voltage cabinets; bus ducts; transformers; low-voltage power centres.
  • Prepare and review engineering deliverables, such as general arrangement drawings, elevations, construction details, single-line diagrams, material lists and cable schedules.
  • Perform or verify the electrical calculations required to size and select electrical apparatus and power cables.
  • Help select equipment, review vendor technical data and estimate quantities.
  • Draft technical specifications for installation work.
  • Coordinate your work with the other disciplines involved.
  • Conduct site surveys and visits, help with technical support activities on site and during commissioning phases and participate in factory and site acceptance tests.
  • Supervise the work of CEPs and technologists on the team.
