Company Description

A small, yet well-established Mechanical and Electrical Engineering firm is looking to add a qualified Electrical Engineer to its growing team. With over 15 years of industry experience, and a solid reputation for delivering high-quality engineering solutions, our client continues to take on new and exciting commercial projects throughout the GTA.

Compensation

$80,000 to $100,000+, commensurate with experience and professional designation.

The Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced and proactive Electrical Engineer to lead and manage the electrical design of commercial new builds and tenant fit-out projects. This role involves full project lifecycle responsibilities—from concept design through to construction support—and requires a high level of technical knowledge, strong communication skills, and sound understanding of local codes and engineering practices.

Position Description

Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Lead the design and development of electrical systems, including power distribution, lighting, life safety, and low-voltage (LV) systems, for commercial projects.
• Prepare and stamp engineering drawings and documentation, or work toward doing so under supervision (for EITs).
• Oversee the work of drafters and junior designers, providing technical guidance and quality control.
• Perform load calculations, system coordination studies, and product/specification selection.
• Ensure all work complies with applicable codes, AS/NZS standards, and the Ontario Electrical Safety Code (OESC).
• Conduct site visits for field reviews, coordination meetings, and construction support.
• Liaise with clients, contractors, and consultants to ensure engineering intent is met throughout the project.
• Assist with proposal development, budgeting, and project scheduling as needed.

Qualifications

We are looking for individuals with proven experience and the following:

• 4 to 8+ years of experience in electrical engineering design for commercial construction projects.
• Deep understanding of electrical systems including power, lighting, emergency power, and Low Voltage systems.
• Knowledge of AS/NZS standards, the Ontario Building Code, and OESC requirements.
• Strong coordination and leadership skills, including experience working within a multidisciplinary team.
• Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication abilities.

Education

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering
• P.Eng designation in or EIT status working towards becoming a P.Eng with PEO in the near future
