Job summary

Welland Hydro-Electric System Corp. (WHESC) is seeking an Apprentice System Control Operator to learn under guidance and progress through the apprenticeship program in the operation of the distribution system.

You will assist in monitoring SCADA, coordinating field crews, and ensuring safety in accordance with IHSA and UWPC rules while progressing toward MEARIE certification as a Journeyperson Electrical Operator.

Qualifications

• Post-secondary diploma in Engineering Technology, preferably in the electrical discipline.
• Knowledge of electrical theory, electrical distribution systems and safe work practices.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving and decision-making abilities, with focus in a control room environment.
• Knowledge of OHSA and related safety rules.

Responsibilities

• Assist with monitoring and control of automated substations and field devices using SCADA.
• Support switching orders and work protection packages following UWPC.
• Coordinate and dispatch field crews performing distribution switching and maintenance.
• Respond to distribution disturbances and take corrective action.
• Maintain system configuration records and monitor real-time performance in outage systems.
