TEEMA is seeking an Electrical and Automation Engineer for the Non-Integrated Areas (NIA) in Burnaby, BC. The role focuses on electrical, automation, protection, and control across diesel gensets and energy storage systems for off-grid Indigenous communities.

The candidate will design, test, and commission PLCs, HMIs, and microgrid controllers, and prepare comprehensive technical documentation while collaborating with maintenance crews and technologists.

Qualifications

• Minimum eight years of experience in a relevant engineering field or equivalent.
• Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) or Professional Geoscientist (P.Geo.) with Engineers & Geoscientists BC or eligible for registration.
• Intermediate English skills for professional environment, written and spoken.

Responsibilities

• Act as Professional of Record or Owner's Engineer for Electrical, Automation, Protection and Control across NIA generation and energy storage facilities.
• Provide technical support for diesel generation and energy storage systems for off-grid communities (100 kW – 10 MW).
• Design, program, troubleshoot and commission PLCs, HMIs, Governor controls, SCADA, protection relays, and microgrid controllers.
• Prepare technical documentation including narratives, specs, standards, hazard logs, test plans and procedures, commissioning documents.

Job Title: Electrical and Automation Engineer – NIA

Overview:

The E4 – Engineer is a professional engineer or geoscientist who applies engineering knowledge to provide engineering, estimating, planning, and quality management services for medium complexity projects and/or operations safely, with quality, within budget, and on time.Non Integrated Areas (NIA) Planning & Strategy has an exciting opportunity for a senior electrical & automationengineer based out of the country’s Edmonds office in Burnaby. The individual will join the Non-Integrated Areas (NIA) generation planning team comprised of 10 other engineers. The NIA group is responsible for generation of electricity for 14 isolated microgridsthat are not connected to the integrated grid and serve over 20 primarily Indigenous communities. The group is the asset owner and accountable for capital & maintenance planning for 17 diesel generating stations and 1 run of river hydro facility.Grid scale battery energy storage and microgrid control systems are in the process of being added to the facilities to allow integration of community owned renewable energy projects. Application of these leading-edge systems are first of its kind at the company.

What you will be doing:

• Act in the role of Professional of Record or Owners Engineer in Electrical, Automation, Protection and Control disciplines for all of NIA’s generation & energy storage facilities


• Provide technical support for diesel generation systems & energy storage facilities for off grid communities (100 kW – 10 MW) comprising of:
  
  
  • Diesel gensets and associated cooling systems, protection, controls, instrumentation, switchgear and fueling systems
  
  
  • Battery energy storage & power conversion systems, protection, controls, instrumentation, and switchgear
  
  


• Design, program, troubleshoot and commission a wide variety of intelligent electronic devices including: Generator and station PLC’s and HMI’s, Fuel system PLC’s, Governor controls, SCADA systems, Protection relays and communication devices, and Microgrid controllers


• Prepare technical documentation including control narratives, specifications, standards, hazard logs, inspection & test plans, test procedures & reports, installation & commissioning procedures, operation & maintenance procedures, condition assessment reports, drawings and cable schedules


• Witness factory acceptance testing and oversee site installation and commissioning of diesel gensets, battery energy storage systems and associated equipment.


• Work with electrical maintenance crews and CPC Technologists to sign off on repair and re-commissioning of protection, control and automation devices.


• Help develop capital and maintenance plans


• Utilize MS CoPilot to enhance innovation and efficiency

What you must have:

• A minimum eight (8) years of experience in a relevant engineering field or equivalent.


• Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) or Professional Geoscientist (P.Geo.) with Engineers & Geoscientists BC or with another jurisdiction and eligible for registration as such with Engineers & Geoscientists BC


• The companyuses a Digital Sign and Seal Technology. You may be required to subscribe to a digital seal technology service offered by Notarius


• Intermediate English skills for professional environment, written and spoken


• Familiarity with CAD systems and drawing standards


• Ability to use standard industry design/analysis software


• Intermediate MS Office skills (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)

Salary/Rate Range:

$87.00 -$102.00 per hour

Term:

12-monthcontract; most likely to extend
