Your Opportunity

We are seeking a Senior Fire Protection Engineer for our Markham office. This role involves delivering fire protection projects, including designing sprinkler, special suppression, and fire alarm systems; conducting Fire Code analyses, Fire Hazard Assessments, and system testing/commissioning.

The successful candidate will work within a team, collaborating with junior and senior staff, and will have opportunities to engage directly with clients for proposals and project delivery.

Your Key Responsibilities
  • Support fire protection system project delivery, assisting engineers and project managers in analysis, design, and review of fire protection systems
  • Design fire protection systems including suppression and detection systems
  • Assess fire and life safety performance of new and existing systems using applicable Codes and Standards
  • Prepare technical reports
  • Create system drawings using AutoCAD or mark up designs with Bluebeam Revu
  • Perform design calculations, including hydraulic calculations
  • Participate in design reviews, shop drawing reviews, site visits, and verifications
  • Conduct site audits for system performance, as-built conditions, and Code compliance
  • Review contract documents for Code conformance
  • Collaborate with project teams, contractors, and other disciplines for successful project delivery
  • Investigate and resolve design issues
  • Gather data through site visits and review construction activities
  • Prepare reports and technical communications
  • Assist in project proposals and client communication
  • Assess existing systems, analyze performance, and ensure Code compliance
  • Prepare reports, cost estimates, design calculations, drawings, and specifications
Your Capabilities and Credentials
  • Self-motivated, problem-solving, with high accountability
  • Ability to assess system conditions, analyze performance, and interpret Codes
  • Experience in preparing reports and cost estimates
  • Proficient in fire protection system design calculations and drawings
  • Experience with site reviews and system verification
  • Strong communication skills for client advising
  • Knowledge of provincial and national fire and building codes and standards
  • Passion for continuous learning and professional growth
  • Understanding of fire dynamics, material behavior in fire, and human behavior in fire is preferred
Education and Experience
  • Degree in Engineering (fire safety/protection preferred; mechanical or electrical acceptable)
  • Minimum 6 years of relevant experience; consulting experience preferred
  • Experience in fire protection or related system design preferred
