Job summary

Ridge-K.i.d.s.- in Chatham, ON is seeking an Early Childhood Educator Assistant to support the ECE team in delivering age-appropriate activities for infants to school-age children. The role is casual, with 3-5 hours daily in the afternoons, focusing on safety, care, and learning through play.

The ECEA will assist with program delivery, supervise children, maintain records, and follow Ridge K.I.D.S. policies, while promoting healthy lifestyles and positive relationships in a warm classroom

Summary

Ridge K.I.D.S. requires an Early Childhood Educator Assistant (ECEA) to be responsible for assisting the ECE’s in guiding and instructing children, from infancy to school age, in a variety of educational subjects and life skills. Subjects and life skills include music, art, social science, literature, physical activity, personal hygiene and healthy eating. In addition, the ECEA will assist children with nurturing developmental and cognitive skills such as physical, mental, and social development. The ECEA is responsible for providing care for the children, including hygiene, feeding, exercise and play. They also instruct children in practices of personal cleanliness and self-care. They foster cooperative social behaviour through games and group projects to assist children in forming satisfying relationships with other children and adults. The ECEA encourages children in singing, dancing, rhythmic activities, and in use of art materials, to promote self-expression and appreciation of aesthetic experience. The ECEA alternates periods of strenuous activity with periods of rest or light activity to avoid overstimulation and fatigue.

• Assist the RECE to plan, prepare, and implement daily activities (indoor/outdoor) as they relate to the curriculum.
• Assist in creating a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate to the physical, social, and emotional development of students with an emphasis on language development and emergent literacy skills.
• Provide activities and opportunities that encourage curiosity, exploration, and problem-solving appropriate to the development levels of the children
• Assist in the completion of pre and post assessments for children.
• Be sensitive to individual children's differences and needs, and be willing to adjust the program and curriculum to meet those individual needs.
• Assist in maintaining ongoing developmental records for each child, including keeping records of all developing skills (physical, social, emotional, and cognitive).
• Set reasonable behaviour expectations consistent with the age of the child and within Ridge K.I.D.S. policies and philosophy.
• Provide positive behaviour guidelines such as re-directing, positive language and reinforcement
• Seek opportunities to recognize and celebrate new achievements
• Engage each child individually each day.
• Observe how children use the materials and interact with each other and adults and report observations to the ECE.

Parents/ Guardians

• Maintain good communication with parents on a daily basis through the use of electronic journals or daily sheets, notes and/or verbally.
• Maintain open, friendly, and cooperative relationship with each child's family and encourage their involvement in the program.

Team Members

• Work with other staff members to form a positive, supportive team atmosphere.
• Participate in team planning sessions with all team program staff to ensure well-coordinated and effective delivery of programs.
• Work cooperatively and effectively as a team member by communicating and contributing information on a continuous basis.

General

• Ensure confidentiality of privileged information.
• Maintain adherence to all company policies and procedures, including safety requirements.

• Model appropriate interactions and positive behaviour management techniques through daily contact with children and staff in the classroom.
• Select books, equipment and other instructional materials appropriate for the program.

• Continue professional development through attending workshops, conferences and staff development opportunities.
• Demonstrate behaviour that is professional, ethical, and responsible.
• Assist with other duties as requested.

Requirements

• Vulnerable Persons Sector criminal background check. (within 6 months of hire date)
• TB test required upon hiring
• Health Assessment and up to date immunizations required.

Work Conditions

• Regular to frequent requirement, and as needed, to lift children (up to 45 lbs.), including bending, stooping, stretching, squatting, pushing and pulling, and sitting and walking.
• Noise level can be moderate to loud.
• Intermittent physical activity including walking, standing, sitting, lifting and supporting children.
