Job summary

Our Lady of Sorrows School in Ontario seeks an Educational Assistant to provide classroom support and physical care for students with diverse needs. The position is a 1.0 FTE temporary role, effective immediately until approximately November 30, 2026, with potential extension to June 30, 2027.

The board offers compensation per the applicable collective agreement. The successful candidate will hold a two-year post-secondary diploma in a relevant field and demonstrate strong teamwork,

Qualifications

• Two-year post-secondary diploma in a relevant field such as Developmental Service Worker, Youth Worker, ECE or Practical Nursing.
• Experience with students with multiple needs including physical needs, autism and behavior delays.
• Preference for experience with behavior exceptionalities.
• Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment.
• Knowledge of augmentative communication strategies.
• Experience using Google Classroom/Meet for remote learning environments.
• Excellent interpersonal and written/oral communication skills.

• Collaborate with classroom teachers on instruction and accommodations.

Mandatory Requirements:

• Two-year post-secondary diploma in a relevant field such as Developmental Service Worker, Youth Worker, Early Childhood Education, or Practical Nursing (formerly RNA diploma).
• Experience working with students with multiple needs including physical needs, Autism, developmental delays, behavior, and anger management needs.
• Preference will be given to candidates with direct experience working with children with behavior exceptionalities.
• Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment.
• Working knowledge and experience of behavior modification strategies.
• Knowledge of augmentative communication strategies.
• Experience using technology and digital tools and resources that support the remote learning environment (e.g., Google Classroom, Google Meet)
• Excellent interpersonal skills; and
• Good written and oral communication skills.

Preferred Requirements:

• Non-violent crisis intervention training would be an asset
• French language skills would be considered an asset
• First Aid training
