Job summary

The Surrey School District invites applications for a Visual Language Interpreter to facilitate communication between deaf, hard of hearing and hearing students and staff, delivering interpretive services in and out of classrooms and supporting the student’s educational program.

Successful candidates will have a two-year post-secondary program in Sign Language Interpretation, be a current member of WAVLI, and possess very high fluency in ASL, with at least one year of related experience.

Qualifications

• Successful completion of a two (2) year post-secondary program in Sign Language Interpretation and at least one year related experience
• Successful completion of grade 12
• Must have experience as an interpreter
• Very high level of fluency in ASL required

Responsibilities

• The Visual Language Interpreter facilitates communication between deaf, hard of hearing and hearing students and staff by providing interpretive services in and out of the classroom and reinforcing the student’s educational program.
